The morning announcements blared through the speakers. It was Friday morning, a beginning to a brand new day. A brand new day in the torture chamber, some call middle school. The air smelt of sweat and mold. Definitely a disapproval to my lungs.
"Go-o-o-od morning students of Wilkerson Middle School!" The principal began. He always started the announcements that way, and usually lost my attention after that.
"Gertrude." A boy named Andrew called out behind me, waking me from my thoughts. He always did that, because he found my old lady first name to be funny.
I looked at him, as he laughed. His teeth were crooked, and his face looked too small for his head. He was what the preps would call a loser. He was always mean to me. And no matter what class we were put in together, he always got the seat right behind me
"Why?"
"Because." Was his answer. It was hopeless to even talk to a kid like him.
The morning announcements finally came to an end, then we stood for the pledge of allegiance. I stood, and heard two girls laughing in the back of the class. Demon laughter that came from Mackenzie and her best friend Skylar. This couldn't be good. I knew they were laughing at me.
Andrew then tapped me on the shoulder. "You have something on your pants." He snickered.
What? I was confused, and sort of scared. Was it that time of the month. I was panicking.
I ran out of the classroom, even if it would cost me getting in trouble. I ran to the girls bathroom. Looked in the mirror, and saw a red stain. An ink pen stain. Mackenzie had strategy in this game. This little side game of revenge.
Maybe that's why the Rebels never got their freedom from the Category Codes. Mackenzie had too many tricks up her sleeve. She was too clever. She was too much of a bully. She needed to be defeated, but it didn't seem possible.
Though I didn't know for sure if it was her idea to put a busted pen on my seat, or if it was just a coincidence, I still felt like The Dare Game was useless when Mackenzie was involved.
Luckily, I had a pair of sweat pants I packed for gym class. So I changed into them quickly, pretending as if nothing ever even happened.
When I entered the classroom, the teacher was standing near the door, with a facial expression that read: "I'm so going to write you up, because I'm cruel."
Mrs. Jones hated me. I always got bad grades in that class, even when I would try my hardest to get good grades.
"Where were you, Miss Elliot?" She asked, plainly but strict at the same time.
"I sat on a busted pen, so I had to change." I was shaking.
"You should have asked first. Detention!" The middle aged woman shouted.
Instead of just one more day of detention, I now had two. Great. Two more days of the Dare Game.
I was still horrified of The Dame Game, because when it was my turn to get a dare, I wouldn't be able to chicken out. And if I did chicken out, they would call me a wanna-be. Everyone would think that I wanted to be a prep.
I went back to my seat, where the ink was still splattered. "Sit in the back for today, Elliot." The teacher commanded.
The seat in the back, the seat next to Jordan Hancock. Huh, go figure.
Jordan didn't even look my way, as I headed for the back seat. He probably believed his girlfriend, he thought I actually told her I wanted to make out with him. This was a nightmare, but worse, because I was awake.
The class finally began, with Mrs. Jones yelling at the class for not understanding her poor math teaching skills.
I took the chance to look at him. With one little glance, I caught eye contact with Mackenzie. She made a menacing face, like I chose to sit next to Jordan.
"I know you didn't say that." Jordan whispered.
I was startled, it was the first time he ever talked to me. I didn't respond, because I didn't have words to say. In my stomach, fluttered thousands of butterflies.
"I'm sorry for what my girlfriend said, she tends to get jealous." He apologized.
He sure was different, talking to a loser like me. But I knew Mackenzie wouldn't scold him, instead she was going to get back at me again. She would always hate me, and always find new ways to get her acts in revenge.
