*****Exander's POV*****

It has now been 9 days since I brought my mate to the pack hospital. She is still sedated. But the doctors have stopped giving her medicine. She should wake up on her own any time now. It was all up to her.

I hadn't left her side for more than a half hour at a time. I only left to shower and go to the bathroom. I had the nursing staff bring me my meals in here. Greyson had taken over the pack duties for now. I was beyond thankful for that. He knew that I was not in the right mindset to deal with anything pack related.

It was killing me that she hasn't woken up yet. Storm was getting on my last nerve. He was always pacing around in my mind, whining. It wasn't his fault, he just misses his little mate, just like me.

Her waking up was problem one. Problem two was getting her to trust me. Once she realized who I was, she would hate me. Plus with everything she has gone through, she would be even less willing to trust me.

There has to be a way for me to get her to trust me. I would never bring harm to someone so innocent, especially not the one the Moon Goddess made me destined to be with. I just had to convince this mystery woman of this.

Sighing, I sat up and took her hand. Staring at her face, I silently begged her to wake up. As if she heard my prayers, I felt her finger twitch under mine.

It happened so fast that I dropped her hand. I wasn't sure if I had just imagined it or not. But then it happened again. My eyes flew from her hand to her face. Was she finally waking up?

"Please wake up. You are safe now. I promise no one will ever hurt you again," I was begging, but I didn't care. I needed her to open her eyes.

When nothing happened again, I sighed. I guess it was just a reflex to being touched. Laying my head back on the bed, I reached for her hand again.

But it wasn't there. When I looked up, I was met with piercing silver eyes. She was awake!

"You are up? How are you feeling?" I rushed out. I stood up and went to brush a strand of hair from her face. She growled in response.

This wasn't my mate. It was her wolf.

At least we know her wolf isn't dead, Storm whispered.

But for her wolf to take over like this with her just waking up, meant that her human side might be dead.

"It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you. You are safe. My name is Exander." I raised my hands slightly, trying to show I meant no harm.

She stared back at me with those amazing silver eyes. I didn't say anything again, waiting for her to get settled again.

"My name is Karma," a low sultry voice said. It sent shivers through my body.

"You are her wolf, correct? Is she okay?" So much worry was flowing through me at the moment I wasn't how I would be able to stand much longer.

"Yes, I am Caroline's wolf. She is badly injured and I have had enough of it. She will not be harmed anymore. I can protect her now," Karma growled with determination.

Caroline. My mate's name was Caroline. Her name was as beautiful as she was. But Karma took over because Caroline was hurt.

"Will Caroline be okay?"

Karma's eyes glazed over, she was talking to Caroline. She sat like that for a few minutes. Then her eyes focused on me again and she gave a small nod.

"Yes, she will make a full recovery. But unless she wants to take control again, then I'm afraid that you will not see her. I will not force her to rejoin this world. She has been through terrible things. She deserves time to rest. She has asked me to keep us from harm's way."

My hope quickly diminished. Caroline didn't want to come back. She wanted to stay in the spirit world and let her wolf control her. I didn't know what to do. How was I supposed to convince someone who I have never met that I am not here to hurt her? And my reputation would make it all the harder. I sighed again.

"Fear not, young wolf. If I deem the situation safe, then I can talk to her. The choice is still ultimately hers though," Karma told me.

Nodding, I asked, "How can I make you trust me that no harm will come to Caroline under my control? She is my mate, I want nothing more than to cherish her."

Karma's eyes glazed over once again. I wonder what she was talking to Caroline about. Seconds later, Karma returned to the room. She gave me a sly smile.

"Give me your hand," she stated simply, holding hers out to me. I looked at her with my eyebrows pulled together in confusion.

"Trust me."

I nodded and followed the wolf's request. As she took my hand in hers, I felt the tingles of the mate-pull, but I also felt something more. I couldn't name the feeling.

*****Karma's POV*****

Care, do I have your permission to see his intentions? I asked my human.

She was sitting in the middle of a field of wildflowers. She looked towards the sky where my voice came from and just nodded.

Leaving her alone to her rest, I looked at Exander once more. This would be fun.

"Give me your hand."

He looked I had just told him to go drink the blood of a cow. It almost made me want to laugh. But I couldn't, this needed to be serious. This was serious.

"Trust me." At that, he nodded and I took his hand.

Immediately, I felt the heat shoot up my arm and knew he wasn't lying about being our mate. I wanted to purr in happiness. We had finally found the one who we were meant to be with.

Once I got over the mate thing, I focused on the job at hand: seeing if we could trust Exander or not. I was not about to let Caroline be treated like she had in the past. That was over with. Now was time for her to be happy.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I gasped at what I saw.
