Do you still want me?

Chapter 7

****Karma's POV*****

Blood. 

I saw so much blood. It wasn't ours, or even his. It was from so many other wolves I couldn't even find a way to differentiate from all of them. There were bodies everywhere. Those who were still alive were running with fear. Then the background changed, as well as the faces. But there was still blood everywhere. That's when it hit me. 

Oh hell no! Our mate was Alpha Exander Steele, the Shadow Alpha. He was the most feared Alpha in the world. Ruthless, hateful, hot-tempered, and vindictive. That was our mate. And bloodshed and death was our future. 

There was no way I was going to let Caroline anywhere near this bastard. He was not going to lay a hand on her. He wasn't going to break her. Not again. Not after all this time. 

I started growling without taking my hand off of him. Different visions of all the murder and pain he has caused kept flashing before my eyes. 

Then it all changed. 

There were soft colors all around, it looked like it was a field of wildflowers. Caroline was sitting in the middle, looking around. It looked like she was waiting for someone. I looked around but didn't see anyone. Looking back at Caroline, I saw that she was smiling at something behind me. I knew it wasn't me since I don't really have my own form away from Caroline. 

Turning around, I grew confused. I saw Exander walking out of the forest and walking towards her. He was returning her smile. She stood up as he got closer. He pulled her into his arms and spun her around in circles. Caroline squealed with joy. When he placed her back on her feet, he moved his hands to cup her face, and gently placed his lips on hers. It looked like she melted into his kiss as she wrapped her arms around his neck. 

I shook myself from the vision and looked Exander in the eyes. He stared back at me, confused. 

"What did you see?" He asked, almost afraid of the answer. 

"Something interesting," was my only reply. 

I didn't know what I saw meant. I didn't know if it was enough for me to trust him with Caroline. 

"Can I speak to Caroline?" he asked with a concerned look on his face. 

Closing my eyes, I internally turned to Caroline. Knowing she had seen the same things that I did, I didn't have to ask her. She looked up at me for a second. Then nodded. Looking back at Exander, I narrowed my eyes at him. 

"She will speak to you. But I will be listening to everything you say and I will not hesitate to take back over if it's needed." 

He just nodded in response. I pulled back at Caroline pushed to the front. 

***Exander's POV***

I just looked in awe as the silver eyes faded way to ice blue ones. Caroline. It was my mate. I just stared at her with a look of astonishment on my face. Even in her current condition, she was still the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. It took my breath away. 

She flinched away from me suddenly. I guess my staring was scaring her. My eyes softened as I pulled a chair up to her side and sat down. 

"Hi." I wanted to slap myself. That was such a stupid thing to say. 'Hi'? Really? That was the best I could come up with? 

She seemed to find it funny too, as the smallest hint of a smile appeared on her lips. I liked it. I wanted to see more of it. She didn't say anything to me, just sat there. 

"How are you feeling? Are you comfortable? Is there anything I can get for you?" 

It all came out really fast. I didn't know what to say. Why was I acting like this? Why did I feel like a schoolboy who has a crush on the girl he sits next to in class? 

Caroline didn't say anything, she just shook her head while still looking at me. I nodded. 

"My name is Exander. You are at my pack's hospital. You came in in very bad condition." I said slowly, making sure she understood what I said. Again, she just nodded. 

I took a step forward, wanting to sit by her side. I stopped in my tracks when she flinched away again. I gave her a sad look. 

"I'm not here to hurt you. I know you saw what Karma did. I don't know what it was, but I know that it was enough to make her trust me with you." 

She just stared back at me. Her eyes were so intense. I didn't know what to say. I never was one who was good with words. I needed to start simple. 

"May I sit next to you?" I asked, motioning to the chair next to her bed. 

Caroline glanced over at the chair, and then back at me. Her eyes bore into mine like she could see right through me. I don't know what she saw, but her eyes squinted slightly before she nodded slowly. 

I took slow and deliberate steps until I reached the chair. I didn't want to startle her anymore. Turning the chair towards her, I sat down. Her eyes never left me. 

She looked so much better than when she first came in. She still had a lot of healing to do. Her face was still badly bruised, as well as her arms. She was still skin and bones. It made my heart ache. Caroline was so young and yet she had gone through horrible things. 

"Caroline, I-"

"We were happy," she whispered, catching me off guard. 

I gave her a curious look. "What do you mean?" 

"Karma's vision, she saw us happy," she said just as quiet, not meeting my eyes anymore. 

Not knowing what to say, I just looked at her. She looked terrified. Of what? Me? Caine? Her past? I didn't know. But I did know that nothing was going to hurt her ever again, not while I was still breathing. 

*****Caroline's POV*****

He was just staring at me. It was unnerving. I wish I hadn't said anything. His eyes hardened when I told him of the vision. He said he wasn't going to hurt me, and something made me want to trust him. But everything in my past told me not to. 

I just looked at my hands like they were suddenly the most interesting thing in the world as they sat on my lap. 

"I should really tell the doctors that you are awake," he said suddenly and got up and left the room. 

I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. Exander Steele. The Moon Goddess had a sense of humor, that's for sure. I didn't have time to dwell on it because just as fast as he left, Exander returned with a lady who I guessed was the doctor.
