We are
made up of an array of things –
from the marrow and tissue
embodying the crevices of our bones,
to the dim and twinkling dust
birthing the brightest of stars
that so brilliantly dot the
everlasting sky.We are
nature –
the breaths that we bequeath
churn a lively system within us,
and the breaths that we release
solidify and compose
the atmosphere around us –
we are
nature.We are
trees –
our hands,
resembling those limbs
of sturdy branches,
reach out and intertwine
with the branches of others;
our branches often
break,
snap,
and tear,
causing us to each earn
a different story to tell,
and a certain depth to share –
we are
trees.We are
leaves -
we sometimes crumble
and decay into a fine dust,
before floating off
into the arms of the wind
that ever so gently cradle
our tired yet restless minds;
our leaves break away
from our branches
and glide atop the barren ground –
we are
leaves.We are
mountains –
our bases are rooted
atop a strong
and sturdy ground,
and our caves,
blanketed in an
impending darkness,
unearth caverns of
glorious discoveries
and an endless
array of possibilities
when explored
long enough;
our walls are cracked
and our ground
is rocky,
its pebbles
scattered aimlessly
with the stone and rock
that has held us together
for so long –
we are
mountains.We are
the faded footprints
atop barren sand,
each personifying
our own print;
we are
the frozen glaciers
floating within arctic waters,
each melting as we search
for a resting place;
we are
the plunging valleys,
each engraved with marks
and scars,
and gaping holes,
gifting us with a reason
to be different;
we are
the damp dirt
and the glorious marble,
the erupting volcanoes
and the exploding stars.We are
living,
we are
breathing,
we are
strong –
we are
a masterpiece.
