-Melody's POV-
I lay rested comfortably in my bed.
My favorite place to be that's not a food joint. A place where I can sleep. A place where I can relax. A place where I can think.
No one will never know what I'm always thinking about, except myself.
I roll over to my side, breathing a slow, but sharp exhale. Relieved that the day is finally over.
I reached behind me where my phone was, shoved into the back of my pocket. My mom was so merciful to give back to me, I don't know what I would do.
I turned it on to check the time.
4:27
Three hours and three minutes before bed.
I shut my phone off and placed it gently onto the floor, careful not to fuck it up more than it already is.
So, what now?
I remained silent, unsure what I should think about today.
The project due for Mrs. Hazinski?
Nah.
Those two girls that found a dead lizards in their lunches?
Funny, but pass.
I close my eyes, as I try to recap everything that had happen today.
Then it hit me. Lucas.
I NEVER seen him get so angry with me.
Did we break up?
What did he meant by not my competition?
It all begin to flood back to me in one river rush, as it begins to fill me with dread.
I couldn't resist, I grabbed my phone from off the floor, turning on again, as I type a quick text to Lucas.
Me: Hey bby, are you mad at me? :(
He responded back quickly.
Lucas: No honey, I can't stay mad at u ;)
A wave of relief washed over me, as I sent him back a reply.
Me: Oh good :3
Lucas: did u do the homework for Ms. H?
Me: Yessiree, i was goin 2 check them but im sure they are all right
Lucas: like u alwys do
Me: oh stop it
Lucas: srsly
I could feel myself smile behind the phone screen, as he sent me another message.
Lucas: hey im gonna b busy in track practice, could you be my cookie and send me the answers plz?
Me: Sure thang
Lucas: thanks babe <3
I got up, grabbing my backpack from underneath my bed before suddenly hearing my phone abrupt to loud chorus of one of my favorite bands; Fall Out Boy singing Centuries.
Someone was calling me.
Out of my own excitement, I quickly answered the call in hopes it was Lucas who was calling me, in spite of that, the caller's voice was anyone's voice but his.
"H-Hello? Melody?"
I raised an eyebrow, concerned of how this caller knew my name. It sounded familiar.
"Who's this?"
"Oh awesome, she did gave me the right number."
"Who?"
"It's Jeremy, but don't hang up! Please it's important!"
What the hell? How did this asshole got ahold of my number?
"It better be important, I'm a few seconds away from hanging up."
"Look, I'm extremely sorry from what happened earlier, but I really need you to be my partner for the art project."
My face clenched, before I shoot back a response.
"Why can't you work with Sam?"
"You know why I can't work with her!"
I laugh to myself quietly, knowing that the mention of her name brings back distasteful memories for him in eighth grade.
"And thus! I shall die for my beloved Jeremy! In hopes that he avenges me!"
"Sam, please stop..."
"You're in love with me Jeremy!"
"SAM! PLEASE STOP."
English was the best class ever back then.
" I'm sorry Jeremy, but my answer is No."
" Melody, please I'm begging you."
I could feel the desperation in his voice. Made me feel guilt in a way, but not enough to make me say yes to him.
"I'll think about it." I say as my final word, then ended the call right then and there before he could say anything else.
