The sun shone brightly.
The wind felt amazing.
Then everything went dark.
Starlin woke up, and was disappointed to find that it was just a dream.
She had been at peace for once.
"Where am I?", she asked out loud.
She suddenly noticed her natural flames were gone.
She tried to get up, but her hands were clasped behind her back.Oh no.
"No!", Starlin screamed. She couldn't summon even a flicker of starlight.
This cannot be happening...
These are the same kind of handcuffs Peter Brandon wore...
I'm defenseless.
"Starlin?"
"Lance!", Starlin called out.
He reached over with his feet and pulled her up, helping her prop herself against the wall.
Piflin was sweating heavily in his lap, unconscious and handcuffed.
Starlin saw that Lance was handcuffed as well.
"What is happening?", she asked him.
"It's Vian", he replied quietly, "We've been kidnapped. She's taking us along with her to look for Kopheline."
Starlin paused.
"This is my fault", she mumbled, "If I had never left the Galra...if I had never helped Ferin... All of this happened because of my stupid mistakes."
"Nonono", Lance said. He leaned his head against hers, rubbing his cheek on the top of her head to comfort her.
"This isn't your fault. You're human. We make mistakes. But your mistakes does not determine the mistakes others make. We'll find a way out of here. I swear. I promise on my life. I was told to take care of you, and I promise on my life we will all escape.""I love you", Starlin whispered, "Thank you."
"Anything for my princess."
They both closed their eyes for a moment, gathering the strength to stay strong, for each other and for Piflin.
"Starlin?..."
Starlin and Lance looked down.
Piflin looked up at them with sore eyes. Blood dribbled out of the corner of his mouth.
Coran's treatments had kept the little boy alive for this long, but without it, Piflin didn't have long to live.
"Hey Piflin...", Starlin cooed. The sight of her young friend drove her nearly to tears.
"Starlin", Piflin rasped.
Lance leaned forward, "What is it buddy?"
"Your brother... He's alive."
Starlin's heart stopped midbeat.
"What?!", the hybrid asked urgently, "Ferin is alive?!"
Piflin weakly nodded. His chest heaved up and down from his labored breathing.
"He's looking", the Prince told her shakily, "Looking for Lightningstorm..."
Starlin and Lance nodded.
"Yes, Delilah. We know."
The little hybrid muttered something.
"What?"
Starlin leaned forward the best she could.
"Piflin what is it?"What Piflin said next changed Starlin's entire universe.
"Lightingstorm... and Jumper..."
Jumper...
Jumper...
It can't be...
"Piflin, who?...", Starlin asked him in a hushed whisper. She refused to believe her ears.
Piflin coughed harshly, then looked the older hybrid straight in the eye.
"Peter is alive, Starlin."
Peter Brandon.
He's alive.
It's true...
"H-he's alive!", Starlin suddenly cried out. Tears streamed down her face as she happily sobbed.
She turned to Lance.
"He's alive, Lance!", she weeped, "Peter Brandon is alive!"Everyone turned to the door opening.
Vian dragged her fingernails along the wall, until she was a few feet in front of them. She crouched in front of Starlin and grinned sadistically.
"Not for long!", Vian giggled, "And neither will you!"
