Chapter 1

Ethan's pov

"Ethan! You don't want to be late for your first day of school, now do you?" I heard mom yell from down stairs.

I was in my room looking at my full body mirror. I was wearing a plain grey shirt where the sleeves went to my elbows, skinny jeans, and black shoes. As I looked at myself in the mirror I felt disgusted.

This wasn't me. I like to wear skirts, dresses and stuff like that. I like to wear makeup and feel pretty. But... But because of that, because of being myself we had to move. We had to leave because I was being me. Now I have to hide away. Dress differently, act differently, be different.

I let out a sad sigh and walked down stairs to see my little sister Lilly sitting at the coffee table coloring. I notice sitting next to her on the coffee​ table was a hair brush and a hair tie. On the last step make a creek sound. Lilly whipped her head around to face me. Her eyes light up with joy. She gave me a big smile so that I could see her two front teeth missing.

"Fffinally Ethy can you give me a ponytail pleeeeease..." She asked. I giggled at how silly she was acting this morning. I always tried to smile around Lilly. She's so little. I don't want her to get hurt by my suffering.

"Sure thing goofy, but only because you asked nicely." I said while walking over to the old couch. Lilly handed me the hair brush and hair tie quickly. I sat down on the couch and Lilly sat on the floor in front of me. I started to brush through her long soft brown hair as I did mom walked in holding her black purse.

"Why don't you let me brush your hair?" Mom asked pretending to be upset.

"Because Ethy does better hair!" Lilly giggled back.

"What? Is there something wrong with my hair?" Mom asked still pretending.

"Weeeell..." Lilly giggled more.

"Well!? What is that suppose to mean you little monster?!" She said loudly while smiling.

"She's not a monster mom she's a Lilly!" I replied back in my silly voice.

"Isn't it the same thing?" Mom asked. Lilly was in a giggling fit. I finished up the ponytail and set the hair brush on the shiny glass top of the coffee table.

"Come on you two hooligans you don't want to be late for school do you?" Mom asked as she opened the door. Our book bags were sitting by the door. I quickly grabbed my worn out baby blue book bag as Lilly grabbed her new purple Frozen book bag.

Mom opened the door and Lilly raced to the car. Mom and I slowly stepped out of the old-ish house and to the car.

"Is some one exited for the first day of a new school?" Mom asked Lilly. She was jumping with excitement. All three of us got in to the car. Lilly hopped up in her car seat as mom and I got in the font.

We dropped off Lilly to her new Elementary school as mom drove me to my new school too. When we pulled up to the front doors people were going through the doors. I let out a shaky scared sigh. Mom could tell that I was nervous and scared.

"I know you don't like to dress like this Ethan. I know you want to be yourself and be happy. I want that too, I want you to be yourself and be happy. But people don't excepted other people that are different." Mom grabbed my hand am rubbed circles on it to comfort me.

"Maybe not today, but someday Ethan. Someday you'll be yourself and be happy. I promise." She said.

"Thanks for the inspiring pep talk mom." I said wiping the tears out of my eyes.

"Now get to school and make some friends!" My said smiling.

"I'll try my best..." I muttered as I got out of the car.
