Chapter 22

Ethan's pov

Mariza dropped me off at my house and I waved bye to the girls as they drove away. When I was outside my house I realized how late it was. The sun was setting and it was almost dark out. Then I saw Mom's car in the driveway and panicked a little.

Shit! I forgot to text her that I was with the girls! This isn't going to go well...

I took a deep breath, then walked to the front door. I knew Mom was going to be pissed at me. As I opened the front door I saw Mom and Lilly sitting on the couch watching Finding Dory.

"H-Hi guys." I stuttered.

"Hi Ethy!" Lilly giggled as she watched a funny part of the movie. I was slightly confused because Mom wasn't yelling at me... Yet. Then I set my book bag down and went over to the chair. Mom didn't seemed fazed that I was home late.

"Hey mom..." I said slowly.

"Hello hun." She smiled at me.

"How was your day?" I asked, still saying it slowly.

"It was a little bit busy, but it was fine. Thank you for asking." Then she continued watching Finding Dory. I decided to let t go and thanked whatever god just saved me.

~Flashback~

I carefully lifted up my room window from the outside. Then I crawled into my dark room only to have to have the lights turned on. Mom stood in my room doorway looking pissed as ever.

"H-Hey..." I stuttered knowing I was dead meat.

"Where in gods name have you been?!" It's one in the morning!" She whispered shouted to me. We both knew if we talked above a whisper then we would wake up dad.

"I was with a friend." I said standing up.

"With a friend? At one in the morning? Bullshit... If your father knew you were out this late he would-"

"Beat me like he does every day?" I interrupted her. She looked at me in shock. Sure we both knew it was happening but we never talked about it. Sadness filled my mother's eyes.

"I'm sorry, Ethan... We'll leave. Hopefully soon." She looked super upset and I felt bad too. I made my mother upset and at the moment she's the only person I have. Well, I have Lilly, but she's only three and can only say mama.

"Hey! Look at the bright side! My thirteenth birthday is next week. Maybe we can go to that one diner we love." I said in a hopeful tone. Mom then smiled at me.

"Sure, what ever your heart desires."

~End of Flashback~

I sighed and leaned back into my seat.

"I love you so much Mom." I smiled at her.

"I love you too." She then chuckled.

We finished Finding Dory and then watched moms favorite Disney movie, Tangled. After watching the two movies it was eleven pm.

"Time for bed kids." Mom said standing up.

"B-But moooom! I'm not tirwerd." Lilly had bags under her little eyes. She was clearly exhausted and was fighting her sleep.

"I'll read you a story." Mom said, trying to bribe Lilly.

"Fine." Lil said softly as she was picked up by Mom. The two disappeared up the stairs, which left me alone. I was about to get up when my phone buzzed.

Tyler💘: Are you awake?

Me: Yes.

Tyler💘: I can't sleep.

Me: Why? ☹️

Tyler💘: I guess it's because I'm excited.

Me: Why are you excited?

Tyler💘: Because I'm going to the dance with you.

Me: Really? That's why your excited?

Tyler💘: Yeah. Is there something wrong with that?

Me: No. It's just... Why?

Tyler💘: Why what?

Me: Why are you so nice to me?

Tyler💘: Well... I really like you. Your nice, pretty, and kind.

Me: No. I'm not.

Tyler💘: Why can't you see you are?

Me: Because I know I'm a ugly, useless, freak.

Tyler💘: Stop calling yourself those awful things.

Me: It's the truth, Tyler, and you know it.

Tyler💘: It's not the truth. It's a lie. A horrible lie that horrible people put into your head.

Me: So many people tell me I'm a fat, hideous, and unloved so it must be true.

Tyler💘: They all see your beauty and try to destroy it. They know they can't match how stunning you are.

Me: I... I don't know what to say.

Tyler💘: Ethan, your so gorgeous. Please remember that.

Me: I will.

Tyler💘: Good. Now get some rest beautiful.

Me: Ok Ty. Goodnight.

Tyler💘: Goodnight.

I smiled at my phone and thought. He cares about me. I went and laid down on the couch. Then I rest my phone on my chest and smiled. Soon I shut my eyes and sleep took over.

~Dream~

Decorations and other party supplies were all around gymnasium. Tyler and I were surrounded by other people dancing to a slow dance. My hands were on his shoulders, and his were on my waist.

"You look gorgeous, Ethan." Tyler whispered in my ear. I giggled and smiled up at him. Then it seemed like we blocked everyone else out. It was just Tyler and I in our own little world.

"I love you." Tyler whispered. As he spoke he slowly leaned in. When our lips were about to meet I heard a faint voice yell in the back of my head.

"Ethan." It whispered. Then it got louder... Until.

~End of Dream~

"Ethan!" Mom yelled as she shook me.

"You need to get up, it's 11:30. She said as she walked into the kitchen.

Thanks Mom... You couldn't give me one more second...
