I was lost for words. I couldn't speak. How did she know? Okay maybe I should just deny it.
"What are you talking about? Who's Dyson?" I faked knowingly.
She chuckled, "Relax Marcia, my mother works at the front desk. She's the deans secretary and-"
"Your mother is the rude lady?" I let out before thinking.
She nodded slowly and rolled her eyes. "Uh yes.."
"Sorry.." I replied. But it still doesn't make sense. Why would her mother tell her that Dyson and I roomed together.
"It's cool, and no my mother didn't tell me. I found out. I went to go talk to her and came across a book that names all of the students and their roommates and dorm number. I came across yours and saw Dyson's name right across from it." She explained.
I nodded slowly processing every word she said but before I could speak she spoke. "But don't worry. If you don't want anyone to know. I won't tell a soul. But tell me.. Does he sleep naked? If so how big-" I gasped and threw my hands up.
"Don't..don't finish that sentence, and thanks I would highly appreciate if nobody knew who my roommate was. I don't want rumors to start going around the campus" i stated completely serious.
She smiled and nodded, "I pinky promise. I won't tell a soul!" she said as she held her pinky out. I tangled mine in hers and we continued walking.
**
Few hours later I'm in my dorm laying on my bed. I don't know where Dyson headed off too, and to be a hundred percent honest I could careless.
My phone starts blaring through the entire dorm and I see the caller i.d and it's my mother. I pick it up excitedly but before I could even say anything my mother beats me too it. "Mar? Hello? Are you there?"
"Hey mom!" I say, she breathes in and replies. "Oh good, hey sweetie. How are you?" She asks, I laugh and nod my head as if she can see me. "I'm doing great! Better than ever" as soon as I say the last words the door barges open and in comes an angry looking Dyson. He looks at me and his eyes are suddenly cold and harsh. He throws himself on his bed.
As I continue the phone conversation with my mother, ignoring his mood. "Oh good, good. How's your roommate doing?" I roll my eyes and huff, "She's actually not what I expected. My roommate of course-" Dyson glares at me but a smirk playing on his lips. "She's arrogant, cocky, self absorbed oh and she spends more time in the bathroom than I do" I explain as Dyson rolls his eyes and flips me off.
I let out a low chuckle and hear my mother sarcastically say, "Well, she sounds delightful".
"Yeah, she's a charm alright. Anyway how's everyone down there?" I ask.
"Everyone is good, we all miss you!" She says her voice slightly dropping. I look down to my sheets and sigh. "I miss you guys too. You'll see me soon. I promise." I reply.
"I hope so. Well, behave and I'll talk to you when I can. Love you," she says.
"Love you too, tell everyone I said hey"
"I will, bye honey"
"Bye" I hang up the phone and lay down staring at the ceiling. I catch a glance at Dyson and he's doing the same thing.
"Do you miss your mom?" He asks.
I scoff, "Of course I do" I pick my head up and glance over to him. "Why would you ask?"
He shakes his head and keeps his eyes on the ceiling then says, "I don't know. It was just a question."
"Do you miss yours?" I ask.
"Of course I do. Everyday" he says sounding a little sad.
I furrow my eyebrows together. "But your house is not that far from campus-and your dads the dean- you know you don't have to live on campus it's not mandatory"
He doesn't reply.
"I wouldn't if I were you, I love my family too much"
"I just need time away from them. I can't take being so close to them" he states getting more raged with every word that he says.
"Why?" I ask confused.
He looks at me and he looks angry, "As if it's any of your business." He gets up from his bed and walks in the bathroom slamming the door.
I flinch at the harsh sound, and breathe in. Just when I thought I had a decent roommate he does this.
I sigh and roll onto my side laying my hands under my head. I should've never asked why. It wasn't any of my business. I just thought.. that maybe we could..
I don't know.
Interact? not as roommates who hate each other, but as friends.
I guess I was wrong. I close my eyes and drift off to sleep.
