I turned around and smiled sheepishly. After all it was Aunt Maria who was standing in front of me. I waved awkwardly at her and her companion. I had a lot of questions for my guardians. I stepped away from the coffin when I saw the look on her companion's face.
He was handsome. Not in your typical tall, dark and mysterious type but in his overall appearance. His face had a five o'clock shadow and his eyes were narrowed in concentration and were barely visible underneath his well shaped eyebrows.
He turned towards Aunt Maria, arched his right eyebrow and spoke.
"This is HER? WOW! They look so similar but fret not Rie, she hasn't made the connection yet. But her mind has questions for the both of you." He looked confused for a few seconds before it seemed as though he had stumbled across a huge revelation.
He glared at Aunt Maria and spoke in a voice so soft that you would think he wasn't mad at all. His facial expression was the polar opposite of his tone. "Did you not tell her about her powerful lineage? She will be utterly confused now. Your lack of courage will be the cause of my endless grief if she refuses to do the need full."
It seemed it was Aunt Maria's turn to glare and scowl at him as the minute he uttered those words, he was slapped in the face by her. The action leaving a very visible mark. I had to stuff my fist in my mouth to stop the fits of giggles that were threatening to escape. I did not need them to turn their attention towards me. They could continue their cute spat for as long as they wanted.
" How dare you accuse me of being a coward. Have you forgotten what I had to go through so that you and Amirah could still have your bond! I lost my baby because of that spell. I had to go to the ABASCAL cemetery to prove to that monster that she was truly and undeniably dead! I had to go there and put my life and powers on the line. We all know I am forbidden from entering that cemetery but I broke all the rules and went there. All the freaking rules!"
He seemed unfazed by Aunt Maria's outburst. If anything he looked even more pissed.
" But she isn't ALIVE Rie! Don't you see? Amirah isn't alive!"
" But she isn't DEAD either Niel! You can hear her blood flowing through two bodies. You can feel her heartbeat. That should be enough for you. I lost my child! To save her. The least you can do is respect what she did. And what I did. " Aunt Maria exclaimed in distraught.
Before either of them could jump at each others throats I cleared my throat in order to get their attention. Their conversation had definitely spiked my interest. Words like cemetery, spells and bond had been tossed around. And I was shocked to learn Aunt Maria had lost her baby. So me being me, was curious. And my,my...were they going to ease my curiosity.
Aunt Maria looked at me and gasped. She looked at Niel...is that what she had referred to him as? Well whatever. She looked at him and it seemed like they were having a mental conversation after which she nodded her head and looked me squarely in the eyes. She grabbed my head in between her hands and uttered the words 'recuerde su último'.
And just like that I fell into an abyss....or so I thought.
Translation...:)
ABASCAL means "priest's street" from Spanish abas "priest" and kale "street".
