A civilisation repaired

Two years later

Over the next two years many things happened to our small settlement of 20 kids. For one, the 500 babies eventually grew up to our age and were released as fully fledged members of society. It turned out that these now our age humans had been trained to our level of intelligence through the computers that had kept them alive. It was a glorious turnout, many new teams were added and all of the 5 teams were expanded to 3o or so kids each. Progress went along quickly with everything we were researching. We quickly found out that the green spheres were a key part to the planets ecosystem. While we weren't completely sure why, we knew that many of the now known creatures used the green spheres in one way or another. Aside from that, our once small town of 20 had, with the addition of the 500 new kids, grown into a large town filled to the brim with activity. Today Hans was had pulled me aside and asked me to meet him in the conference building in a couple of hours. That is where I now am.

"So... What do you want to talk about?" I asked Hans as I quietly entered the small room just outside of The Argo's main entrance. "This is going to be a lot of information for you to take in" he started saying, "and you might not be happy about it so i'll give you the choice of what you want to do when I'm done talking"

"Ok, I guess that a start." I responded, "But could you just get to the point already? It isn't like we have all the time in the world you know". "Your right" he agreed, "I'll get right to it then. Recently the constructors finished building a highly advanced spacecraft capable of reaching Earth in just one year"

I stared blankly at him. "Cmon" he reasoned, "Don't give me that look. You want to know if Earth is still there as much as I do, right?"

I broke out of my trance and responded, "Yea! But they told us NOT to go back. Even if we want too, its against the rules! You know that!". Hans cast his eyes downwards, he knew it was wrong. He suddenly burst, "We cant just leave them be though!"

I leaned back in surprise, it was unlike Hans to shout at anyone, especially me. "So..." Hans started again, "Could you at least consider it? There would be another nine kids besides you. You can chose the nine kids of course, and hopefully they will agree to come with you. If you do it of course."

"And what is there is no more Earth, or people for that matter?" I asked. "Well it's highly unlikely that there will be no Earth. But if there isn't you can land on the moon, deploy your mining drill, wait a few days, then start your trip back here. If there are humans then make contact with them and send us a radio message. It uses the same kind of technology as the spacecrafts engine so it shouldn't take any longer than an hour to reach us."

"What then?" I asked in curiosity. "Then... I suppose humanity will have two planets under control" he answered. Then, "So have you deiced yet? Stay or leave?" he asked me. "I think I'm going to leave. If everything goes along like what you say it should, it'll be fine". "Good" he said, "We will leave in a few days time. Have your nine other ready by that time". With that, I turned and stored out the door and into the bright sunlight of Uictoria.

After many conversations and much frustration, I had my 9 others. The nine others were James, Molly, Elizabeth, Cheng, Felix, Fergus, Mark, Alex, and Newt. After more intense conversation everyone's roles had been picked out people dispersed to pack and get ready for when the time came in just a few days.

I wonder what it will be like, Earth that is. If humans are still there what could the Earths shape be in after a meteor like that hit it. If it didn't wipe out all the humans, certainly there wouldn't be many humans left anyways. I guess thats just something to ask any people we see on the Earth when we get back.
