Figuring It Out

Chapter 5

When I wake up, I can hear voices in the kitchen. My face feels puffy and swollen from the crying I did. as I roll over to check my phone, I see that the clock reads 6:17. I think about it, and see that I have been asleep for about an hour and a half.

I work my way into my attached bathroom, and check my face. my makeup is completely smeared down my face. I groggily reach for some cotton swabs and my makeup remover, and wipe my face clean.

As I pad out of my bedroom, the voices I heard become clearer. I linger outside the kitchen, where I hear Danielle Peazer, Liam's current girlfriend of 3ish years, and Eleanor having a chat.

"I wish I didn't have to but I couldn't take it!" Danielle sobs.

I liner, trying to figure out what happened.

"I know, it's really hard. I go through the same things as you do. Lou and I try to make it through the end. Look at Zayn and Pez, their engaged!" El is using her most comforting voice to try and soothe her.

This only made Dani cry harder.

"I ended it! I can't do it! I didn't want to lie to him either, I just wanted to keep him happy! But my happiness comes first this time."

I hear El sigh.

" I know. I'll admit, at first I had those thoughts when Lou and I started dating. But we made it through. I can tell you thought this over. I respect that completely."

Dani sniffles, and I think she blows her nose.

"Thank you so much girl. Please don't tell Bri yet. Liam should be the one to break it to her."

As if on clue, my phone starts buzzing in my hand. I look down and read the name Liam set in my phone.

Lili the best brudder ever

I sigh lightly, and pick up the phone, adjusting my tone so I sound more cheerful.

"Hey Li! Two more days!!"

I sit for a moment and hear Liam sniffle a little, before replying with a half hearted

"Yea. Can't wait."

I mentally felt my hear break a little for him. I knew exactly how hard he felt for Dani. He was actually planning on getting to propose to her, once their fourth anniversary rolled around in November.

I tried to act like I didn't know anything about their breakup.

"Li, what's the matter? You sound really upset."

I hear him make a muffled sound, that sounded like a held back sob.

"Well... um... Danielle broke up with me this morning."

Once he says this, he just completely breaks down. All I can hear are his cries, for his broken heart. Over it, I hear the front door to the flat shut, signaling that Danielle left. I hear Eleanor banging pots and pans, trying to start dinner.

"Liam I am so sorry. I wish there was something I could do to make you feel better."

I can tell Liam is trying to regain his composure. A loud sniff is able to be heard through the line.

"Well, like you said, we will be together again in two days. and you'll finally be out of El and Lou's hair."

The smile is evident in his voice, and I can't help but giggle. I can hear Liam giggle in return.

Soon giggles turn into bellyaching laughs, something me and Liam have always been able to do to each other, to about as far back as I can remember.

Liam and I continue to talk to each other for another 30 minutes, until Paul calls him off. Before we hang up Liam leaves me with;

"Thanks Bri. I feel a whole lot better. Love you, and see you in a little!"

I return the favor, and walk I go into the kitchen to join Eleanor for dinner.
