The Job

"SCARLET GET OUT, I TOLD YOU TO LEAVE!!! I DON'T WANT YOU HERE ANYMORE"

These were the words that I heard as my drunken father kicked me out of the house. He knew he didn't need to take care of me anymore because for the past 2 years I've taken care of myself. Don't get me wrong my life hasn't always been just me and my drunken father... it used to be a lot better.

2 years ago everything changed. Through my 16 years of life, my family was always very happy, think white picket fence and a family minivan. But one day the facade that was our family fell apart.

My name is Scarlet Coleman and for the first 16 years I had a twin brother named Erin, he was my best friend, but he was an idiot. A few months before he died, he got involved with a guy named Johnny Sacco who owned a sketchy business. Everyone in the family other than Erin had no idea what the business actually was. Two years ago from what I can tell, Erin owed him money and you can guess where it went from there. After we got the call it only took 2 weeks for my mother to leave us and my father turned to drinking and now I'm being kicked out of my home by my alcoholic father.

As he was yelling from behind me, I ran out of the house with a small bag seeming the fact that the most of the time I wasn't even at that house I didn't have much. I really didn't know where to go ironically the only person I could think of was Erin but I knew he couldn't help me now so instead of going to him I went to the only other person who could help me- Johnny Sacco. I knew the one place he always stayed was at the boxing gym down on south street. So that's where I went.

As I arrived at the gym I slammed the door open "Johnny you in here?" I yelled.  After Erin died Johnny took me in as if I was his little sister and no matter what protected me. I knew he had friends I didn't want to meet in a dark alley at night.  "Aye baby girl how you doing," Johnny asked while bringing me in for a hug. I pulled away from him making a face at the fact his body was sweaty from boxing with some guys. "Oh, sorry hun anyway what are you doing here at 2 am?" He asked me looking concerned.

I told him everything. "Look, Johnny, I don't want sympathy I want a job" his face went pale.

"Babe you know I can't do that for you, Erin would actually come back to life and kick my ass if I ever did" he said "Come on I don't want you to just support me I want a job I can do whatever it is" he gave me a look "Fine come with me then"

He started walking away from me towards his office when we got in there he grabbed his keys and walked down the hallway. It confused me where he was going because the hallway was a dead end. As he was taking the painting off the I noticed a keyhole on the wall. He put the key in and twisted it opening a door in the wall leading to a staircase.

I followed him down the stairs and came to something I never wanted to see. It looked like Dexter happened. There were pictures of people all over the walls. Imagine every murder board you've ever seen on tv and multiply it by 20.

"Johnny, what is this? I need you to tell me the truth of what my brother did for you" I looked at him demanding an answer.

"I own a hit company. Your brother was one of my men..." he paused looking down "he wasn't meant to die he was on a mission and it went wrong" he said giving me a sympathetic look.

"Now that you know what do you want?" He asked

"I want a job," I said stepping closer to him.

He looked down grabbing a folder "then here are your cases. I know you have shooting skills and fighting skills I've taught you well enough but you're going to need more training. You'll have 5 practice cases and then there is your first big test case, his name is Kyle Adams, he is a high profile model/businessman out in L.A."

"Why does someone want him dead?" I asked, "Our job isn't to know why someone wants the person dead, our job is to do what they want."

"Come in tomorrow morning I'll give you your outfit, weapons and we will start training after that. Oh and from now on your name is Scar. Welcome to the team"

I know it's a little short but the chapters will progressively get better and longer! I hope you enjoy this chapter and enjoy the book!
