I sat in the waiting room. Frozen. My 18th birthday was supposed to be a celebration not a tragedy. Makeup was running down my face. Mascara stained my face due to my endless tears. Last I found out Farkle was in surgery. His father won't fly out here. His son could be dying and he won't get off his ass and come to London. Again I face all this alone. Stuck with thoughts flying through my head. Maya and Josh are at the police station. I put my face in my hands and cry. That's all I can do.
"Miss Matthews."
I rose to my feet.
"Yes."
I sniffled.
"Hes out of surgery. The bullets were very close to his heart. He's lucky. He'll live. He needs physical therapy. And there could be a side effect of."
"Of what."
"Memory loss."
"So when he wakes up. He might not remember anything."
I questioned.
"Yes. But you should be happy he's still alive."
"I am. Can I see him."
The doctor nodded and led me to a room. There he was. Lying there. Motionless. Hooked up to more machines then I can count. I rushed to his side. I squeezed his hand.
"Farkle. I love you. I'm not giving up on you. We will get married some day. I don't care if you don't remember me. I will be your wife. We will fall in love again. We'll get married. We'll have a small ceremony because big weddings are cheesy. And for our honey moon we'll travel the world. I don't care how long it takes we'll see the world. And we're gonna have children together. And we're gonna grow old together because I love you. And we deserve the big beautiful love that everyone gets once in a life time." I cry.
"Who. Who are you."
I hear him squeak. I cry into his chest harder. I hear him begin laughing.
"I love you Smiley."
I lightly hit his arm.
"Don't scare me like that."
I squeal. And it turns into laughter. He takes my hand and takes off my ring.
"Second thoughts."
I ask.
He hands me the ring.
"Look on the band dumb dumb."
I will always protect you.
With the sketch of a bullet. The same one as my tattoo. I softly kissed him.
"I love you Sparkley Farkley."
"I love you Smiley Riley."
