The letter arrived, but we hardly ever got any letters other than the bills or a very rare one from my dad. But this one, it was from the Capital. Which meant that everyone else must've gotten it. I sat across my mom and watched her open it, as soon as she read it, she smiles at me. "The princess turned sixteen," I raised a brow. "So, what of that? Birthday? Aren't those only for Twos and Threes?" She shook her head. "No, no. Percy, she's currently looking for a boyfriend. The queen—her mom, of course— had led the country herself, but the princess wanted to rule with someone else." I nodded. "You're saying you want me to sign up." She shook her head. "No, not unless you want to."
But I took the paper anyway. "If it means you divorcing Gabe, Im fine with it." I gingerly took her paper out of her hand and grabbed a pen on my way up to my room.
As a four, I've never really had trouble with much. But my stepfather, Gabe, that was the only problem I had. As Fours, food was okay and we had okay jobs. My mom works at a candy store, and she likes to bring me a jar of blue candies every weekend. But Gabe litters our house and fill it in smoke and poker. And trash (a whole lot of it him).
Education was fair, but I get occasionally kicked out of my schools for weird things that would happen.
At first, my mom had married a Two, but for some reason had remarried to a Four. She tells stories of how great the Two was, so I had no idea why she'd leave such a kind man.
Especially to Gabe. I've seen better Fours, a lot of them too. Gabe was the worst, drunkard and abusive.
Anything to get him off my mom.
I wrote my my name, age, all those other infos and such.Well, never realized how a slip of simple paper would change my future and invoke my past.
