RECAP: Just as Autumn was about to scoot forward they were interrupted by an inconspicuous cough.
Quickly standing up Autumn turned around to see.....
***********************************
Her mother. Melanie Vast was standing there awkwardly watching her little girl grow up before her eyes. There was no way that she could have stood watching her only child get kissed. Just the thought made Melanie retch.
"Uhm, honey, your, uh, time is, uhm ,up." Autumn looked at her mom knowing what she almost just saw, and knowing how much it disgusted her.
"Okay mom, can Alex come back with us?" Alex was standing behind Autumn with his head hung low, obviously embarrassed that it was his second mom who found them.
'Not that anything happened' he thought, and it was this thought that made him the saddest.
"Of course. Alex, you're always welcome at our house even if you have a thing for my daughter. You should know however, that she's never kissed a boy, and that-
"MOM! C'mon, let's go home now!"
****************************
Back at 13 Mud Bay Road the visitors were sitting around the Vast's kitchen table, anxiously awaiting Autumn's answer.
Patrick Aero sat there making a list of all the good things that would happen if Autumn joined them. He made lists very often, but this particular one went something like this:
•The agency would no longer need to take children away from their families
•He would personally enjoy the company of a new person on the road with his son, and his assistant, Nancy.
•Maybe this was the girl who Nathan finally opened up to.
This last reason was one of the biggest in Patrick's opinion. He had set his son up with many girls before, but never had he ever invited them back.
But, maybe Autumn would be the one to knock some sense into the boy.
Nathan Aero was a good kid, but written off as a trouble maker. He looked like the epitome of 'bad boy' with his black hair and looks that could fool anyone. The truth was that Nathan just kept to himself, and liked it that way. This could be mistaken as rudeness, or disrespect, but in truth he was just a nice boy. Never had he done anything wrong, and he was the key to his father's success, although Patrick would never admit this.
The front door opened and in came Autumn Vast. The girl who decided everything. The girl who changed everything. Hopefully, for the better.
Following behind her was Alex, and trailing at the end was Melanie.
"I've made up my mind sir." She said in a soft voice
"Please, call me Patrick, and what have you decided, dear?" It was the dear that made Nathan roll his eyes. He had to keep up the act of being a good, unaware, southern man, but in truth he was the opposite; vigilant, to some an enemy, and from Canada.
Autumn saw the eye roll, and wrote it off as him just being rude. Glaring slightly Autumn continued, "I want to go. But, I will need time to pack and say goodbye."
Mrs. Vast was stunned, while Alex knew this was coming. He wanted anything to stop it, but there was nothing he could do.
"I'll help you pack." Alex said hoping that no one would object to it; he needed to finish what he had started earlier.
After hearing no protest the duo walked up the thirteen carpeted stairs and into the first room which belonged to Autumn. Walking in, Autumn got right down to business by throwing all of her clothes out of the closet, while having Alex fold and pack them away.
After a while the packing was done, and still not a word was shared between the two.
Finally breaking the silence Alex said, "Well, at least you'll have that kid down there with you." Alex faked relieved, but was actually freaking out on the inside that his first and only crush was leaving with some boy who looked as if he could murder her.
Autumn saw past this façade, and turned toward her best friend, "Alex. Don't be jealous," Autumn made up the short distance between them in two steps, "I like you, and want to be here with you, but I just can't Alex. I have to do something that will make a difference to people, not just sit around while all these other people get to go out and-"
Alex couldn't stand two things, Autumn's babbling, and the proximity that was between them, so he did the only thing he could think of; kiss her.
The kiss surprised Autumn, but it only lasted a few seconds. Alex pulled away, only to be brought forward again by Autumn who had always wanted to know what it was like to kiss Alex.
This kiss lasted longer, and felt more needy than the last which only felt sweet. Autumn expected to feel sparks like she read about in the fairy tale books, but all she felt was the tangy taste of Alex.
Autumn wrapped her arms around his neck, as his hands felt their way to her hips.
The kiss was so perfect that there was only one way it could end... Interruption
*********************
