I flopped down on the beautiful feathered bed and sunk down into the sheets. The open window let in a breeze , sending the white satin canopy fluttering all over the mattress. The violet silk comforter seemed to invite me to sleep and never wake up.
At the head of the bed were a dozen pillows, all a different shade of purple, with the seal of the Vivunt Imaginariae printed on the largest pillow and on the curtains by the large window, complete with a sea-foam green window seat. On the right side of the window was a closet with a bunch of different outfits for different activities; a flowing riding gown for horse or dragon riding, a suit of leather armor for sword fighting or archery, an invisibility cloak for various reasons of mischief, a Quidditch uniform for (duh) Quidditch, a leather bag for holding all my stuff, and a black cape just because black capes are badass. In front of the bed was a vanity...okay maybe they didn't know me as well as I thought they did. On the other side of the gigantic bed was, my favorite, a bookshelf that covered the entire wall. It stretched all the way up to the ceiling and was filled to the brim with all my favorite books.
A knock on the door distracted me of my inventory of the room.
"Come in." I said, not bothering to move. Catherine opened the door and invited herself inside.
"Dude!" she squealed. "You're room is way better than mine!"
"They know me better, and they weren't expecting you. You gotta admit, the Created really know how to welcome somebody."
"No way!" she said walking over to the vanity. "This is awesome! You didn't tell me you had a-AAAAH!" She suddenly screamed. I grabbed my wand off the bedside table and ran over to the mirror. I didn't see anything suspicious, just myself standing in a battle stance with my wand at the ready and Catherine looking petrified.
"It's just our reflection, Catherine." I said. "Nothing to worry about."
"I didn't just see my reflection." she said
"Well what did you see?" I asked.
Catherine thought for a moment before saying, "Well, I saw myself, and Eric. And we were making out. It was the weirdest thing ever."
I rolled my eyes. "Oh very funny." I said sarcastically. "The put a mini mirror of Erised in here!"
"A what?" Catherine asked.
"The Mirror of Erised," I explained, "'Erised' is 'desire' spelled backwards. It was introduced in the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. It shows us the deepest, most desperate desire of your heart. Apparently, yours is sucking face with Eric Dawson." I stuck out my tongue and gagged.
"Okay. What's yours?" She asked. I looked in the mirror. I didn't see anything. All I saw was me, standing there with my wand with Catherine beside me. Was this really the deepest desire of my heart? Did I even have one?
"I've just graduated from Yale Academy, with a job opening at a programming company." I lied.
"Cool." Catherine said, looking at everything sitting on the vanity. "What are these?" She said, picking up a few of the charms. Each of them was a symbol from a story, all resting on one ring, on a chain. Attached was a note. For good luck. - from all of us. I fished around on the ring and pulled out the one with the deathly hallows.
"This is the deathly hallows. The triangle is an invisibility cloak, the line is the elder wand, the most powerful wand in the world, and the circle is the resurrection stone. The three items make up the hallows, whoever has the hallows has enough power to conquer death and rule the earth." Catherine looked blankly at me. "Okay," I continued, "How about this. This is called a trident. It's the symbol of Poseidon, the father of Percy Jackson, and a symbol of the sea."
"Huh?" Catherine said.
"Okay," I said again. "What about this? This is a mockingjay. It started out as just Katniss's token when she went into the Hunger Games but later, became a symbol of freedom, and Katniss became a mockingjay herself."
"Nothing you said meant anything." Catherine whined. I sighed, walked over to the bookshelf, and picked up Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, The Hunger Games, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians; The Lightening Thief.
"You have a lot of reading to do." I said as I shoved the books into her hands and pushed her out the door. I sighed and walked over to the vanity and looked into the mirror. Nothing. No special desire, no dream, not even a ripple. What did my heart want? Did it even want anything?---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So things just got weird. What is up with that vanity?
So what do you guys think so far? I'm hoping people like it.
So guess what? I'm super exhausted! I just had a play last night and after the play we had a photo call which was supposed to go for only about half an hour but instead it went two hours and then we had to put everything away, including the props, sets, and the piping drapes. So yeah. I'm tired and kinda getting sick :P(>^#^<) I need a waffle.
Send me some love Wafflebunnies, I need some virtual hugs.
~Maeve.
