She was fascinating to him, yet he didn't know why. He could see  the hurt behind her eyes, he understood her need to run and hide from the world.

He hated what his newfound buried emotions where doing to him. The guilt, that heavy feeling in his heart because of everything he's done. He could see himself in her, she felt that same pain, that same guilt.

Kai didn't understand his emotions, he wanted to hate her, he wanted to go back to that dead, emotionless soul he once had. He had experienced these feelings multiple times since he had left Mystic Falls, in bars, shops or on the street. Since really having time to think everything that had happened, Kai craved comfort, even if he wouldn't admit that to himself. He craved someone to talk to, someone who understood.

Kai had followed Elise back to her apartment, curious about her oddly calm reaction at him attempting to kill her. Surely she should have cried, screamed, something? He leaned against her doorway, hands in his pockets as he watched her rush around the small room.

Elise's dark green eyes darted around her apartment, oblivious to the heretic in the doorway. Her heartbeat racing in her chest.

She had been found, the covens had found her, and that was all that was on her mind at that moment. Her apartment had been ransacked, ripped to pieces by someone, looking for her.

Elise had a small suitcase lay open on her bed, throwing clothes, shoes, toiletries and other random stuff in there. It was evident she was panicking.

Kai bit the inside of his lip lightly, before purposely clearing his throat, making his presence known. Elise's head snapped upwards, her heart racing at the sound of the cough.

"I told you not to follow me."

"Well," Kai leant further into the door frame, letting out a little breath of air. "I found myself interested in what's got you so scared."

Elise paused, unsure of what to say at first. She held that door closed in her mind, the door that contained all the memories she was keeping at bay.

"Ask the witches that sent you to kill me, I'm sure they would love to tell you." Elise stated thickly.

Kai hummed in curiosity.

"Where are you going?" He asked, noticing the bag.

"None of your business."

Kai rolled back on his heels, feeling the need to fill the room with his voice.

"You're running." He stated, Elise gave him a deadpan look, as if to say 'no way'.

"I was thinking, maybe we could help eacho-"

"I don't need your help" Elise snapped.

The space in the room filled with that same feeling they had both been broken by, Kai didn't notice it at first because of his own magic, but Elise felt it as soon as it slithered in her direction. She stopped what she was doing. A look crossed her face, her eyes widening.

"Someone is here." She mumbled to no one in particular. Grabbing her small suitcase, she shoved the rest of her stuff in, zipping it up and immediately heading for the door.

"Wait, who's here?" Kai questioned, then his deep blue eyes widened, feeling the familiar magic in the air. As Elise pushed past him, he grabbed her arm, pulling her towards him.
