"Careful," I yelled as I ran through the hallways of the building, not wanting to hurt anybody.
I heard Mr. Nowak, the janitor, scream after me after I accidentally almost hit him with the broomhandle he was holding, "Wow, Miss Taylor, you must be in a hurry!"
"I am!"
"Who's waiting for you, Queen Elizabeth?"
"Sure," I rolled my eyes as I tried to dodge all hurdles, "And you're about to meet William and Kate."
"Sure," He repeated my words, making me roll my eyes again.
I was just about to arrive at Miss Smith's, still not knowing how I should explain to her that 1. I really did not know about me working today, 2. She can send this guy that had been waiting for me back home, thanks. But me, saying that, would make me lose my job.
Before I knocked, I went through the expected conversation again, the one that I have made up in my head. She would hug me, even say Sorry to me, saying it was all her fault and that I actually wasn't supposed to work today and it was all just a misunderstanding.
But it was about to go much differently, and I wasn't prepared.
As I knocked, she opened the door, not expecting to actually see me.
"Huh, I didn't expect you to still come."
Wow, that started in a wonderful way already.
"I'm sorry for being late," I excused myself, "I didn't look at the new schedule, what has changed?"
"I just switched both yours and Jennas schedule."
"What.. why?"
"Calm, little lady. It has its own reason. You need to trust me, now come in."
I went through the door of hers, remembering the day when she first told me about Harry Samuels. Maybe today was the day of me telling her I was going to meet him.
"You missed John Marbles," She said in an offended voice, "He wanted to talk to you, specifically."
"He.. why?" I asked way too many questions, already.
"As I told you, he saw you at the event," She started as she drank her coffee, "I told him about you being new in this industry. He liked you right away, when I talked about you. He seemed to be interested in an interview with you, so I agreed. For you, of course."
"Where's the snag in all of this?"
"There's none, and stop thinking that. Well, okay, it's not just for you. You just seemed to be the easiest one to have an interview with. He knew you wouldn't be going to ask him incredibly stupid questions if you were to interview him since you're still new here."
"So he thinks he can use me?"
"Don't see it in this way. There's something in for the both of you. He's getting an incredible article and everybody sees him as a king and you're.. well.."
"Miss Smith...?"
"You're getting money for writing what he wants you to write."
"I am pretty sure this isn't the actual job of a journalist, is it?" I was confident enough to point that out, ready to let her yell at me. I wasn't going to let her do this with me. People would look at me as the one and only cheater if I was one to accept money for writing lies.
"It's our job to speculate. He wants speculations, but the good ones. Also bad publicity is publicity, too." She now smiled at me, seeming to be serious with me.
