He was following me, closely. On the walk back to Richie’s, it was silent, non of us knew what to say at all. I just wanted to go back so they could tell him how crazy he sounds. I mean, I know I don’t remember a lot from my past, but still, I think I would be able to remember that.
When we got to the house the guys were sitting on the sofa looking at the television. “God don’t you guys ever sleep?” I said as I walked in.
“Not much” Richie said. He got up and went into the kitchen.
“Right, be honest, is Mr. Looney tunes over here, telling the truth?” I pointed behind me to signalize Ryan.
“About?” Tom asked, he was a new name.
I looked behind me and smiled, it sounds like they know nothing about it “Don’t come up to short” Ryan said as I turned back.
“About being really really old and having a race ‘much like the humans’” I tried to mimic him badly.
It was silent for a moment and Richie walked back in. “What’s with the silence?” He handed me a coke.
“Thanks, is it true that we are not from the human race” I said it a bit more seriously, I didn’t like the rooms reaction. I can’t not be human, I feel, I bleed, I cry, I think, I have to be human.
“You see, they try to protect you from the truth and like I’ve been saying, you don’t need protecting anymore” Ryan said it in my ear. I couldn’t think of words to say. I grabbed behind me and grabbed his shirt, I swung him over my head and slammed him against a table that shattered. How did this happen, it is just opening my eyes to see how true he is. I had my knees on his shoulder so his arms where out of use.
“You’ve ruined my life” I scream, I realised just then I was crying. “I had a great life, I had friends, I had a family and you came in for one day and ruined it and now this”
He was just looking up at me, there was sudden movement and he pushed his arm up and grabbed the back of my neck and put me to the floor. He picked me up and opened his arms, I could only hit. I Kept hitting and he walked in, I stopped hitting and he put his arms around me. I was crying, hard. “I’m sorry” He stroked my hair. We stood there for 5 minutes until I had calmed myself down. When I came out of his arms all the men in the room were standing up. I looked at the floor and the coke that Richie had got me was all over the floor. “I’m- I’m sorry. I’ll just-“ I bent down and picked the can up.
“Vicky, don’t worry about it, it is fine. I will sort it” Richie bent down beside me and put his arms around my shoulders and brought me up, he led me over to the sofa and sat me down “Do you want another drink?”
“If everyone else is having one” I was stuttering from where I had just had my crying moment.
“I’m sure everyone wants a drink right guys?” He looked around nodding
There was a chorus of “Oh yeah” and “yep” and “sure, I’m parched” It made me laugh how they all did it.
“See, everyone wants a drink, so I will get you a drink” He tapped my knee and walked back into the kitchen.
“I can’t believe it”
“What? You bet Ryan up?” It was George who asked, he was the joker of the group, I just remembered, you needed a laugh, just go to him.
I laughed “No, I’m not even human. I always thought I was boring, just plain, everyone just walks past and ignores, but the whole time… I am not even the same race” I looked to the floor to hide my tears.
