"were you guys just...?" cheryl didn't have to finish her sentence. betty tightened her ponytail and looked down on the ground. i cleared my throat, the awkward silence filled up the room.
at least betty didn't have to worry about coming out now.

"uh, we were just - studying!" betty thought up of an excuse. i looked over at her, she had a smile plastered on her face trying to hide any sign of insincerity. i snorted.

"yeah, studying each other." cheryl rolled her eyes. her tone of voice said nothing short of sassy but her expression was a bit hurt. i mean, i knew we were kinda close and i regret not telling her, but i didn't want to out betty. not that it mattered anymore anyway.

"ugh," i groaned. "yeah, we're together." i told cheryl. she laughed, "yeah, no shit."

"don't tell anybody... about this. we were just going to tell archie, jug and kevin today so i'd appreciate you not gossiping about this to the whole school." betty said, and cheryl made a remark about how 'is that really how you think of me?' like it's such a big surprise. cheryl left and betty and i exchanged a glance before the lunch bell rang, and we were sitting with the gang.

"hey, so we're dating." i skipped over the small talk and the coming out speech. betty slapped my arm and mumbled that that was dumb. archie coughed on his food and kevin just acted surprise. now they're both gay best friends!

"that's cool." archie said. jughead stayed silent, but a small smile rested on his face. i knew archie wasn't jealous, he was with valerie and he seemed happier than before. they all didn't seem to care, just like i thought but betty was still freaking out. "are you guys okay with that or anything? i don't want this to ruin our friendship and -" i put my hand over betty's and she stopped talking to take a breath.

"it's fine! as long as you guys are happy it doesn't matter to us." archie told us. jughead agreed, "yeah. not our position to tell you guys what's right or wrong." and the conversation ended like that.

"you guys are dating?" reggie walked up to the two of us, a chuckle coming out of his friends behind him. i furrowed my eyebrows, how would he know about us? betty was just as confused about this as me. cheryl walked in front of reggie,

"you really overestimated me."
