Chapter 1
"Josh, get up! It's time for school"
I get up with a groan. "Coming mom!" I shout in reply. I force myself out if bed knowing my mom will start to get angry with me if I don't. As I make my way down the stairs the smell of bacon hits me, and gets rid of all the weariness that still lingers. I rush down the last of the stairs, taking two at a time. When I walk into the kitchen I see my brother Luke has already woken up. For reference, my brother is a complete fool. His straight golden-brown hair goes down to his eyebrows. His big innocent brown eyes, childish face, and his crooked smile makes all the adults instantly love him. My mom, sanding over the griddle flipping the flapjacks she's famous for. With her light brown hair in a messy bun, her green eyes watching closely to make sure nothing got burned. Even the tip of her tongue stuck out. I make my way to the table and sit down and just inhale deeply for a bit. It's not very often we get such a breakfast. Not having to wait for too long, she comes around with a plate full of stacked pancakes and bacon. She sets it down on the table. "Oh my goodness, Josh you need to do something with that hair of yours!" In my family we are all "famous" for something. With my mom it's cooking, my brother is getting away with things, and me my bed head. It's crazy every morning no matter what I do. Diving right into my pancakes, I feel the light fluffiness of its texture. "Mmmmmm" I can't help but exclaim. "Is there anyway these can get better?" I ask her. "Well, I don't know is there?" She replies. "Probably not." I say reasonably. Finishing the last of the pancakes, and after scraping all the syrup into my mouth, I put my dishes in the sink and walk back up the stairs to get ready.
Chapter 2
Just as I finish brushing my teeth, my mom yells "Time to go, everybody in the car." Fumbling with my backpack I quickly run down the stairs into the garage where the car is running. I rush in and slam the door shut. We pull out if the driveway and start towards school. Now most people think of school as.... well, hell. Don't get me wrong I don't like it either, I just don't think it's that bad. Ya occasionally there's a jerk or two, and a weird teacher. Can't forget about the one kid who nobody like because he's just gross. Well no school is perfect, I just have to deal with it. Looking out from the window trying to ignore my brothers awful singing with the new "hip" songs, I look up at the grey overcast. Seems like we get a lot of these here in California. Especially because we are so close the the bay. Weather is usually decent at best during the winter and early spring. As we turn the final corner before school my mom turns off the radio and slows down to a stop. "You two have a good day and school. Love you both." As we open the doors and slide out of the car we both mumble our goodbyes. The moment we get out of the car and on the sidewalk it starts to rain. Not the hard big fat drops, but a sprinkle that is soothing. As we walk to school we hear the bell ringing for five minutes left until first period. As we walk/run into campus, Luke goes and bee-lines for his group of friends leaving me on my own. Not that I wanted his company much longer anyway. I don't know how he keeps his group of friends, I can barley stand the car ride with him. Hurrying to Algebra, because Mr. Wolf doesn't like you to be late. I rush in and sit down into my desk right as the hell rings. He gives me a glare as to say "Next time I'll get you." I start to take out my notebook and the weekend homework when the door opens, and a girl walks in.
Chapter 3
I'd never seen her before. She had long blonde hair, with piercing blue eyes, she was a little shorter than me. Being 5'7 that's a pretty respectable hight for her. She was wearing a Abracrombie sweatshirt on, with bright blue skinny jeans. She had those vans flat bottoms and the typical Jansport grey backpack. Mr. Wolf goes up to her and shakes her hand. Why he does this I don't know. He is talking to her and points the the empty desk next to me. She slowly walks over, not sure what to expect of me. She comes and plops her backpack on the ground and introduces herself. "Hey, I'm Rose. Mr. Wolf- that is his name right? told me to sit here." I just kinda stare at her for a couple of seconds and finally mumble "Hi, I'm Josh. Nice to meet you." She sits herself down and zips open her back pack. She starts to get out her notebook and copies down today's notes. Finished, I start to ask about her. "So is this you first day" I try to act casual, as if this happened a lot. "Montana" She replies just as casual. I can't hide my surprised look for very long. Montana, that's like a bajillion miles away from here. She sees the surprised look on my face. "Ya, first move ever. My dad got a new job here and we had to move." "Oh, that sucks." I reply. She goes on in silence for the rest of the period. As the bell rings and we are dismissed, I ask her what her schedule is. "Well you know I have first period math, so there's a start." She smiles at me making sure that I know she's joking. Pulling out her schedule she says, "I now have History with Mrs. Peterson, third period Science with Mr. Goef, fourth period English with Mrs. Taylor, fifth period PE with Mrs. Carmen, lunch, sixth period French with-I can't pronounce her name, and seventh period Cooking with Mr. Weidinger." It starts to drizzle, and I quickly tell her where her next class is before she can ask my schedule. I know I have fourth and seventh with her. I couldn't wait to see her face when she finds out as well.
