Katelyn

"Bye dad!" I called as I slammed the door to my dad's beige Chevy pickup truck. I threw my light blue floral backpack over my shoulder and dragged my green Aztec design suitcase through the dirt and up to the registration booth. "Hi!" A teenage girl said. "I'm Hazel! My Aunt is Gladys, the owner of Camp Kikiwaka!" She sounded a little too cheery, too cheery to trust. Hazel pulled the sleeve of a woman who was probably in her mid forties or early fifties, but looked like she was sixty and tried to seem younger. The lady turned around and outstretched her hand. I shook it. "I'm Gladys, the owner of...well, whatever you wanna call this mess." I slowly nodded. "So what's your name?" Hazel asked. "Um Katelyn. Katelyn Roy." I said. She wrote my name on a list and handed me a paper and a t-shirt. "Well Katelyn, you'll be in the Woodchuck cabin!" Hazel smiled. I smiled back and nodded.

Just then, I heard a huge racket coming from a few yards behind me. I turned around, pulling a strand of hair behind my ear, and my eyes widened in surprise. A teenage blonde girl had like, 4 suitcases! A girl who looked about my age had 3, and a boy who looked a little older than me had a huge black backpack and suitcase! As I was leaving, Hazel stopped me. "Um, phone please?!" I sighed. "What?! But it's summer camp! How can I have fun without my iPhone?!" I asked in frustration. Hazel shrugged. "Too bad so sad. Gimme your phone!" I sighed and put it in the basket she held out. As I walked to find my cabin, a teenage girl approached me. "Hi! I saw that purple shirt you're carryin' so you must be in the Woodchuck Cabin! I'm Lou, your cabin councilor!" I smiled and nodded. "Katelyn, and yea I am in the Woodchuck Cabin!" "Cool, well let's head on over! There is already someone there so you guys could maybe talk a little well I round up the rest of the cabin?" Lou proposed, and I nodded as we stepped through the door. "Ok!" "Also, you can pick your bunk since you have second choice!" I nodded. "Thank you!" I called as Lou ran back outside.

I looked to the bunk that was already set up. A girl sat scrunched against the wall with a huge, fat book and her eyes glued to the text her book contained. "Um, hi I'm Katelyn! But you can call me Katie. What's your name?" I asked. The girl looked up. She was Asian. "I'm Tiffany." She said before looking back down again. I nodded and set my stuff down on the bunk at the far corner and sat down. That was when two of the three kids with tons of stuff came in. Lou helped them both, and they had so much stuff, I didn't see any of their faces. Tiffany didn't seem to notice their presence yet, though they came in making as much noise as a herd of elephants! They dropped all the stuff on the floor of the cabin and stood their, huffing and puffing. I raised an eyebrow. Then they began to set up their bunks. The blonde teen took the bunk behind Tiffany's, and the girl who seemed about my age took the bunk in front of mine. Lou took her bunk at the back and in between mine and the blonde's. Then everyone started talking and hugging and telling each other how they missed each other. I just awkwardly sat at the back of the room, on my bunk, and watched it all.
