"I'm sorry, Hermione. I can't do this anymore.""What do you mean?" Hermione said as she felt her stomach twist and turn anxiously. Ron called her for 'a talk' and she was feeling nervous. She looked at the wizard in front of her. They were standing by the lake, sheltered under a tree from the bright sun in the sky. Hermione's palms rolled into tight fists.
Dreadful thoughts were blocking her brain making her unable to think of anything else. She had thought this day might soon be coming. She noticed Ron being far more distant than usual and she had started to think that their days together would eventually come to an end.
"Hermione, I-I don't think we are right for each other," Ron said softly.
Hermione's entire body ran cold. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, wanting to break free from the chains that were holding it back inside her. Her mind was still attempting to process everything.
"Y-you don't love me anymore?" Hermione's voice cracked.
Ron still wanted to be friends with Hermione, but after all of this, it was unlikely. With his best effort, he said, "No, Hermione, I do love you, but not in that way."
"So, its over?" Hermione said very softly, you could barely hear it. Her lips trembled and all she wanted to do was run away but she was unfortunately rooted into place. She strongly wanted to deny it but she also desired the truth.
"Yes, I'm so sorry, 'Mione. But I can't live like this knowing that I don't have feelings for you."
Hermione didn't know what to say. She knew it. She expected everything that he said but why does she feel horrible? She could feel Ron watching her and her eyes stung as tears started to form in them.
He moved one step closer to Hermione but she instantly backed away. He had already left a fresh wound in her heart and she wont allow him to cut deeper. Hermione knew Ron felt terrible, a feeling she learned to know of throughout their seven years of friendship. However, his emotions could not compare to the hurt she felt.
"I'm so-"
But before Ron could finish what he said, Hermione turned around and walked away, towards the school. She couldn't let him see her crying, she couldn't.
Once she entered the school, the tears streamed down her plump cheeks. She briskly walked to the common room and when she entered, she saw Ginny sitting comfortably by the fire.
"Hermione, what's wrong?" Ginny spoke worriedly, standing up to check on her friend. She quickly walked over to Hermione and helped her towards one of the couches.
"Hermione, what's going on?" The both of them settled themselves down. Ginny carefully tucked a stray lock of Hermione's golden brown hair behind her ear to study her face more clearly.
The broken-hearted witch continued to cry and rub her eyes. They were already becoming puffy and sore but that was the least of Hermione's problems.
"R-Ron...Ron," Hermione started to say. She didn't have the strength to say those few words. Thinking about it only filled her heart with sorrow.
"Hermione! Ron what? What did Ron do? You better tell me what my bloody brother did, Hermione! Did he hurt you?" Ginny said, feeling her patience dissolving rather quickly. What did her brother do this time?
