"What is that?" the fiery redhead asked, pointing at the green item in Hermione's hands after she entered the room.Hermione was in a daze as she walked into the girls' dorm and when she realized what she was holding, she quickly placed it behind her back, blocking it from the eyes of her friend.
"N-nothing," Hermione stammered, "It's just, umm, a piece of, uhh, clothing."
Ginny walked towards the flustered witch and tried to peer behind her back but Hermione wasn't giving her a chance to see what it was.
"'Mione!" Ginny whined and began to ramble. "What is it? I know it's not just some random blouse. I've searched through your entire closet when I needed to borrow clothes and I haven't seen a dark green dress or shirt. I have more proof that that item you are currently hiding from me is not just 'some piece of clothing'. Who carries clothes around? Plus, I know you are not attracted to the color green since it is the shade of Slytherins," she gasped when a possibility hit her, "Could it be a jacket? Or a gift? From a specific someone? Oh my gosh! It's that thing where the guy- you know- gives the jacket to the girl, right, because it's chilly right now! Who is it? Theodore? Or, could it be, Malfoy?"
Ginny smiled so widely it was surprising that her cheeks were still fine. Hermione wasn't giving up that easily. With the green object still hidden behind her, she sighed and tried her best to lie, "Ginny, you watch too many romance movies. Of course, that didn't happen. That doesn't just happen in real life."
Hermione started walking to her bed making sure that the jacket was out of sight from her suspicious friend.
"I know you are lying, Hermione. I have known you for so long. I can tell, 'Mione. So just spit it out," Ginny pressed on, sitting on Hermione's bed and inviting the other witch to do the same.
Hermione looked into Ginny's brown eyes and gave her the most convincing look she could muster while gripping the jacket tighter. Ginny just stared back blankly and after a couple minutes of silence, Hermione sighed again. "Ginny, I already told you. It's just a jacket. It's not important."
Ginny's lips formed a sneaky smile, "Number 1," she put up her index finger, "You admitted that it is a jacket and number 2," she raised up two fingers, "If it isn't important, why are you hiding it from me. You could just show it to me like it's no big deal."
Ginny put her hand down and looked at Hermione as if she was caught red-handed, which she probably was. Hermione looked at Ginny as she bit her lower lip, loosening her clutch on the thing behind her back.
And once again, Hermione sighed, but this time in defeat. "Alright, Ginny. You have successfully caught me," she said in a dull tone. She took out the jacket she had been hiding for the past ten minutes, tossing it on her friend's lap.
With excitement, Ginny quickly flattened it using her hands and her eyes gleamed once they spotted the Slytherin design embroidered on the upper left corner.
Ginny squealed in glee and Hermione just reacted with an eye-roll, her arms crossed together.
"Who?" Ginny asked, jumping up from the bed.
"What do you mean?" Hermione questioned back, furrowing her brows as her head looked up to the excited girl slightly towering over her.
"What do you mean 'what do you mean'?" Ginny spoke, becoming impatient. "Who gave you the jacket?"
"A Slytherin," Hermione said calmly while Ginny looked like she was about to explode. Either from excitement or irritation, probably both.
Ginny, who was annoyed, said with her hands raised in the air. "Nice observation, Captain Obvious!"
"Wait," Hermione muttered, "How do you know that?"
Ginny heard this and explained, "What? Don't judge me. I was watching some muggle TV and somehow stumbled upon it. Now I have answered your question. It's your turn. Elaborate."
Hermione, who was getting tired of Ginny pestering her, decided to just say it. She bolted right up to her feet and spoke, "Okay, Ginny. Draco Malfoy, yes that ferret, gave me the jacket because we were out by the lake. We were supposedly going to make a plan but because of the Theodore situation, the atmosphere grew very awkward. He saw me shaking because of the cold and he gave me his jacket. There! Happy?"
All Hermione received was a huge grin from the girl she was staring at and before she could say anything else, the girl was dancing and hopping about looking like a complete idiot.
Then she stopped jumping. She looked straight into Hermione's eyes and her happy face turned into a serious expression. "What 'Theodore situation?"
Oh, she doesn't know, was what Hermione thought in her head, she knows so much. I might as well tell her.
"Umm... Theodore and I— we kissed," Hermione said quickly and after hearing this, Ginny's eyes grew wide.
"Oh my bloody hell, Hermione! Are you a two-timer! Wha—"
This time, Hermione's eyes were the ones to turn to huge circles. "What are you saying?! Shush! What do you think of me, Ginny? Be quiet or else everyone will hear!"
"Sorry," Ginny mumbled then sat down on the bed again, attempting to process everything. This was too much for her and it was overloading her brain.
"You bloody git," Ginny pouted and pushed Hermione gently on the shoulder. Hermione's heated expression turned to shock and before she could tell her off, Ginny continued, "You should've told me sooner. Look we wasted so much time all because you procrastinated. Bloody hell."
Hermione responded with a smile which made Ginny more irritated by the second. But before she knew it, she was smiling too.
"Oh stop!" Ginny said, unable to wipe the smile off her face as she gave Hermione another friendly push. "Your smile is contagious!"
