"So you're saying there's nothing that you are able to do?" I asked Devine, who had been sat at the window for the last ten minutes I've been watching him. He knew I was here, that much was certain. He didn't need to look to know who was in the room with him. He didn't even turn to answer me.

"I'm afraid not. There's nothing we can do with simple magic and tricks," He said. "The Light works as a natural force. One that cannot be tamed by man."

"What about Mary-Margaret, the witch?" I frowned at the mention of her name. "She somehow tamed the Darkness."

"The Darkness has different intentions than the Light. The Darkness thrives on hate. Something we humans are prone to feel. The Light is a much more natural force that stays where there is no civilization. That is why the Darkness is much easier to obtain than the Light."

"There has to be a way," I desperately say, as I cling onto this hope that somehow I can take back my kingdom and save Elpis Zoe. The Light was the only way I knew how I might be able to do this. "Some way we can get to the Light."

He finally turns in his chair to look at me. His eyebrows were quirked curiously. "It's hard to say for sure. The Light doesn't stay in one place. But you may be able to find it in Kenai in Alaska. It's a small town and there aren't many people who reside there. The Light has been known to go there."

"So I will be going to Kenai."

"If you go, what of the human you came here with?"

"I will take her with me, what else would I do?"

"I'm not so sure that is a good idea."

I frowned.

"You see the Light is a powerful source. I'm certain a human can't handle the effects. It's a dangerous element, just like the Darkness."

"So you're saying I should leave her here? She'd be heartbroken."

"Better to be heartbroken rather than dead."

"Being heartbroken is the same as being dead," I say.

He fixes his glasses on the bridge of his nose. "It is your decision, Vampire. But be prepared to protect the human should she need it."

Just then, I had thought of something. I looked at Devine again. From the smell of him, the flowing of his blood, I could smell the mortality on him. He was a human too. "Devine, tell me, you are human, are you not?"

His curious look told me he had no idea where I was going with this. So I continued. "Could you possibly train Styx? I don't like how defenseless she is. And I know that I cannot keep her safe all the time."

"I do not know," he said, grabbing at his wrist, which was covered by a white tape. "Magic is not that simple. It takes time, dedication and hardwork. But mostly time. Which is something you do not have."

The thought of losing Styx because I wasn't able to protect her made my heart clench tight in my chest. I can't do that. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself. I have to keep her safe. Any way I am able to. And if this is the best way I can do that, then I will take whatever I can.

"Do what you can, Devine. She needs this. I need this."

"We gotta be careful," Titan said, as we walked through the dark. The crystals lit the way, but because we didn't have any flashlights anymore, it made things incredibly difficult to see. We only had a faint glow to go by and that wasn't enough. But it looked like we had no choice. "It's easy to get turned around now. I haven't been in these parts of the tunnels very many times. It's forbidden to come any farther than this."
