Chapter 4
"You children can go upstairs to Mel's room and hang out while I am making dinner. Have fun! But not too much fun!" My mom said and threw in a wink after. I swear that women's sole purpose is to embarrass me. Trevor chuckled, and made his way up the stairs. I slowly followed after him, cautiously keeping my distance.
Once I entered my room, I found Trevor looking at one of my photos. I peeked over his shoulder and froze, it was a picture of Cole, Adam, and I as freshmans. Our smiles were big but our backpacks were even bigger. I giggled at my stupid thought.
Trevor turned around, and offered me a sympathetic smile. I raised an eyebrow, but suddenly I felt a wet drop hit my shirt. I finally realized that I was crying. I guess because I cry so much now, I can't even sense it anymore. "So, I'm guessing this is your best friend and your umm well ex..umm boyfriend," he mumbled. I silently nodded, praying to get off the topic of them.
TREVOR'S POV
I gazed at Amelia's room, it portrayed her beautiful personality when she's not all cold and sarcastic. I looked over at Amelia, to see her fiddling with her fingers. Her blue eyes were clouded with tears and her smile was slowly quivering. She must be thinking about them.
You know what the weird thing is though, I swear I saw those two boys in Amelia's picture screaming and crying at Mel's mother at the airport. I remember catching some of their conversation. It was something about not hiding from Amelia anymore and in response Amelia's mother said they were a danger to her daughter's safety.
Something here is really fishy, and I'll do anything to figure it out.
"Kids!! Dinner is ready!!!" an unfamiliar male voice shouted. Mel's ears perked up and she bolted downstairs like a little kid on Christmas morning. Once I got down the stairs, I saw her in a intense hug with the mystery man.
" Derry, you're back. I missed you so much!" Amelia screamed with joy. After the mystery man turned around, it became evident to me that "Derry" was Amelia's older brother. Their similarities were striking, same strong blue eyes and brown hair. I can't believe I didn't remember him, he was the one that always teased us when Mel and I were little.
" So I ran into Co..." Darren started but soon got interrupted by his mother. " Darren, may i have a word with you." His mother said through clenched teeth. "Ummm oookkkay" Darren said, alarmed by his mother'a sudden change in mood. I waited a few minutes to ask to go to the bathroom.
Knowing that, Darren was going to get a full explanation from his mom, I rushed down the hall towards the direction of their hushed voices. " You mean to freakin' tell me that Amelia thinks her boyfriend and best friend are dead because of you. Let me guess, you convinced the shitty people in this shitty town to lie to poor Mel. Oh my god!! You did it back home too!!! How could you??? What kind of mother are you?" Darren said in a menacing tone.
All of the sudden, his mother broke into tears. " You don't understand Darren, we almost lost Amelia because of the irresponsibility of those two boys," her weak voice cracked. "This isn't the way to do it. She's broken because of it, she'll never be the same person mother." Darren voice came out stone cold despite his mother crying next to him.
"Do it for your mother Darren please. I can't bear to see Amelia in the hospital bed again about to die!! It will break my heart please please please," she begged her son. "Fine, but please try to fix this." He said. Footsteps made their way towards the door, as I rushed for the bathroom. Once inside, I flushed the toilet and quickly washed my hands.
Since school started tomorrow, I needed to find a way to reach out to Adam and Cole. I will do anything to make Amelia happy again, if only times were as easy as they were when we were seven and our only worries were the amount of cookies we could eat.
Authors note:
It's a bit short, but I liked bringing a twist into this story.
