Task: Write a paragraph to a story that creates a sense of urgency.
I need to leave. As soon as possible. Quickly and quietly, I try to move my shaky limbs. The paralysing panic has to wear off. I take a painstakingly slow step, my breath coming out harshly as fear constricts my throat. Breathe normally I chastise myself. I can't be caught again. I take another small step, then another and another, one small step at a time. Suddenly, something scampers over my foot, making me jump and scream. I can't see anything in this consuming darkness and the silence is deafening. I stand still in the empty hallway, a stupid decision, to allow my erratic heart rate to slow.
