Because Everything Has To Start Somewhere, Sometimes In The Middle Of Nowhere

Petite flowers bloomed in parks, the beam of sunlight created a light cover on people's skin, and the town's population was hastily preparing for summertime. May in Atlanta looked just like May in every other town in the world.

I woke up to the blinding sunshine in my room (I had forgotten to use the roller properly the night before), pushed my feet into my blue slippers and stepped out of my little queendom.

- Mom! Are we going to buy food after breakfast? - I waited for a reply, but nothing has happened. I was like okay, maybe my family is still sleeping.

When I looked at my clock on the wall, it showed ten past eleven am. I found it very strange that the time has reached eleven ten minutes ago, and nobody said nothing to my question. But this was not the only weird happening.

The street was quiet, too. Birds weren't whistle, cars weren't going anywhere, people weren't talking to each other. Now I was a bit frightened, but I said to myself:

Well, I have to look after this, since I was born, no days have passed without a little noise in the town, or in the flat.

After I opened my door, I didn't want to believe to my eyes.

In the kitchen, in front of me, two human-like creatures were walking. Well, they were not walking actually, they just dragged their feet, and they were covered by blood on their legs and their neck. But the most frightening was that their skin was light green and dark brownish. I couldn't breathe, it was not understandable to me.

All of a sudden, they turned to me, and I shut me door. Their face was so familiar to me, and the first thing that came to my mind, was something that I didn't want to accept, if it can happen.

- Jennifer, where are you? - I shouted, but then I thought, it would be better if I shut up.

Something tried to break my door, and I was very frightened. My family is gone, I didn't have anything to defend myself. But then I noticed a knife and a half apple on my desk. The fruit was brown and I have neither stomach, nor time to eat it. I grabbed the knife, and when they succeeded, they ran towards me. I pushed away one of them, after that, I kicked the other one. It was like a kiss to the dead - nothing... - so I tried, what is going to happen, if I stab them. After I stabbed one of them for several times, suddenly I drilled the knife into its eye, through the brain. It seemed quite effective, so when I have done the same with the other, I could breath for some seconds. But after I looked at them, I felt like a murderer. Those ones, who I killed a few seconds ago were my parents. I fell onto the floor, and my tears started to fall.

After approximately twenty-five minutes, a strange noise came from the entrance door. It was the same to that sound, what my parents showed half an hour ago. I stood up quietly and slowly, and then ran into the kitchen with my bag.

- I have to leave the house, nothing can stop me. First, I run to the front of the house, then I am going to search for somebody for answers...

While I was speaking to myself, I threw some sandwiches, two bottles of water, and four knives - different sized - and some clothes, 'cause I didn't know, when I could come home.

-...Maybe in the secondary school, there is someone who can tell me everything. Yes, it's a good idea...or not?

I picked up my bag, and I prepared for even the worst. Nothing mattered, I had to arrive to the school as fast as I could.

I opened the door, and without thinking about anything, I started to kill one by one those creatures. There were lots of them in the house, and I knew inside myself, that was my neighborhood. But I couldn't do anything, just killing them.

Until I arrived to the front of the house, I killed at least 60 creatures. They were fast and many. But nobody could prepare me for the look of the town.

On the 20th of May in 2400, Atlanta has fallen. Deads were everywhere, a lot of humans lied on the ground, cars were on each other, windows and doors were broken. It was very surprising... And the smell...it was disgusting, and awful.

After I came to myself, I started to run towards my past secondary school, and on the road, I killed every creature, which I could reach.

After killing at least 120 creatures on my road, I arrived to the building. I shut the door behind myself, but it was the worst thing I've ever done. The noise was very loud, and at first only three, than four, than six, than... I had to start killing them, because they were too many and too dangerous.

After killing at least 120 deads, I went to the Biology classroom, where there were weapons - little axes, daggers, and a bow with thirty arrows - on the shelf. I put them into my bag, and when I turned around, I found a red, orange and brown colored blanket on one of the chairs.

I didn't want to sleep on the floor, which was dirty, mostly covered by blood, so I pushed four tables next to each other, then put the blanket on them, and before I went to sleep, I closed all the windows and the door, because I wanted to live yet, and though there were no deads in the building, but I felt like I was not alone. And it seemed a bit safer, if everything is closed with key.

When I thought of what has happened on that day, my parents, the town, I was always sure that it was not a bad dream...

- Goodnight Mom... Dad... Jennifer... And everybody in Atlanta... I'm sorry for what has happened to all of you... But now you don't have to survive this... This apocalypse... Maybe, this is the best word for this...

When I looked at the clock on the wall above the door, it showed ten past eleven pm. I couldn't sleep, so I grabbed a paper and a pen and I wrote down the following:

"Dear Readers,

My name is Elizabeth Johannson, I'm 20 years old. Maybe you know, what has happened here. If you read this, it means you survived the apocalypse. Yes, it is an apocalypse. There are dead humans everywhere, almost all of them are walking. It's very hard to understand it, I know. Just today, I killed approx 200 dead creatures. And it's nothing. There are more left in the town. And I afraid, they are not just in the town. What if they spread all over the world? Am I the only one living left? I hope I'm not the only one. There have to be more humans. Maybe not here, but somewhere..."

While I wrote this, I started to cry, so the paper was a bit wet, but the main things are written...
