-2030-

Edward James Grey's POV

"Hey dad," my son said while entering the living room.

"Yes son?" I asked while setting the book I was reading on the coffee table next to me.

"I um ... I need a bit of advice on something," Drew,my soon-to-be sixteen year old son, said to me.

"Advice about what son?" I asked him. I could see a hint of pink on his cheeks.

"Look ... I-I need advice on love," he said while looking down and rubbing the back of his neck.

My boy's always been the care free yet shy type of guy. I've always been afraid of this moment. I don't want the story to repeat itself.

"Son," I stood up from my seat. "Sit," I ordered him and he did as told.

"Drew, you know that when I was around your age, I was in a band, right?" Drew nodded. "Well ... before leaving the band, I kind of prepared something for when this moment came," I said to him while turning on the TV and DVD player.

I grabbed a DVD hidden in one Drew's old 'Cat In The Hat' books.

"What's that?" Drew asked while I inserted the disc.

"You'll see," I said.

I grabbed the remote and pressed play.

"Is that you?" Drew asked while he stared at the TV.

"Yup," I said.

I paused the video seconds before the music started.

"Drew, please, listen to the lyrics of the song." Drew nodded and focused his eyes on me. "Through out the years, you've asked countless questions about your mother, your mother's marriage with me, between other topics. This one video will explain all those 'how's' and all those 'why's'. With this video, I'll answer your questions, but I'll also give you my advice on love."

I pressed play, the piano introduction started playing and Drew's eyes focused on the flat screen TV hanging infront of him.

'By the time I was your age, I'd give anything

To fall in love truly, was all I could think

That's when I met your mother, the girl of my dreams

The most beautiful woman that I'd ever seen.

She said "Boy can I tell you a wonderful thing?

I can't help but notice, you're staring at me.

I know I shouldn't say this, but I really believe,

I can tell by your eyes that you're in love with me."

Now, son, I'm only telling you this

Because life can do terrible things.

Now, most of the time we'd have too much to drink

And we'd laugh at the stars and we'd share everything

Too young to notice, and too dumb to care

Love was a story that couldn't compare

I said "Girl, can I tell you a wonderful thing?

I made you a present with paper and string.

Open with care now, I'm asking you, please.

You know that I love you, will you marry me?"

Now, son, I'm only telling you this

Because life can do terrible things

You'll learn, one day, I'll hope and I'll pray

That God shows you differently.

She said "Boy can I tell you a terrible thing?

It seems tha-'

In the middle of that one important verse, the power's out.

"What the? Seriously?" Drew started whinning.

"Power's out in the middle of the most important part. Terrific!" I said, sarcastically.

"It seems that ... ?" Drew asked.

"Son ... I'm sorry to tell you this but, you'll have to wait until the power's back on," I said.

"Why can't you just continue singing where it left off?" He asked.

"That's an easy answer. One; I don't have the voice I had back then and two; I don't remember the lyrics," Drew groaned.
