Prologue:
I stood at the edge of the London Tower Bridge, gazing out at the view I've grown accustomed to over the years. At first I didn't know where I was going, or what I was going to do when I got there, but the second I got to the bridge I came to the realization of what I had to do. Now I stood, staring, at the railing blocking the way between life and death. Between reality and whatever lies after it. So far reality has been alright for me, or should I say was. It was perfect. I met the love of my life - had a job I could only have dreamed of as a child - but then I had to choose between my career, fans, and happiness. Let me tell you it was an easy choice, ruining my life versus 4 of the best mates I've ever met, and millions of fans, or break one - possibly two - hearts.
They said it would be easy, that I would move on with my life. "Your feelings aren't real, he's like a brother to you, nothing more." Obviously, my silly silly management was wrong. It wasn't my fault, nor was it his, my heart just happened to choose him. So now here I was, not being able to handle the pain of not being with him any longer. He would move on - he was strong enough to do it. I'm not. I can't keep on pretending. Maybe one day we'll be together again, no lies between us, not having to pretend that what we have isn't real.
I swung one leg over the railing, and glanced down at the gloomy water far beneath me. There I was, straddling the metal rail when my phone started to sing the bridge of "Happily." It could only mean one thing, he was calling. I had two options, pick up and jump, or pick up and let his voice convince myself to keep on trying and putting up with this madness.
"Louis?" My voice shook.
"Harry thank god. I've been trying to get a hold of you all day! Where have you been? What's going on? What happened yesterday - you know it wasn't real." I stayed silent, just taking in his voice. "Answer me dammit!" His voice echoed through the phone as I glanced back down at the water.
"Lou - I can't, I can't..."
"Can't what?" After a moment of realization, Louis saw that this was getting serious. "Hazza... Where are you?" I didn't respond. He was going to find out one way or another, he always found out. "Where are you? Harry Edward Styles if you're doing something foolish I'm going to grab the other boys and find you. I'm going to walk all around London looking for you."
"Louis stop it." I whispered.
"I can't stop loving you." He replied firmly.
"Well that's unfortunate because last time I checked you were with her eating dinner in some fancy restaurant." I managed to say. I didn't want to say it of course, but it was easier for him to be mad at me then to pretend I didn't love him.
"That's not gonna work this time, Harry. You and I both know why you're not telling me where you are because you won't let me convince you that Modest is making me be with Eleanor. Harry please. Just come home so we can talk. Or we don't have to talk. I just want you to be home safe and sound." Louis' voice faded into the background as I contemplated when to jump and what my last words should be. He should know that he has to move on with his life. That he has to live without me, maybe even marry Eleanor and have kids.
"Harry - no. NO. Harry I swear to god..." A car skid to a halt behind me waking me from my trance. The phone went silent, Louis had hung up. "HARRY!" I heard him yell. Tears started to roll down my face as I turned around.
His hair was styled and he was wearing his favourite football jersey that showed off his many tattoos. His eyes were watering as he ran towards me. "Harry - Harry, please tell me you're just being reckless, not - not..."
I turned away as he grabbed my arms. I couldn't look into his eyes, his eyes that usually sparkled with delight, now saddened with tears. "Harry, c'mon. I'm taking you home." He sniffled. Reluctantly I swung my legs back over the railing and started walking towards his bright red car.
"Not so fast." Louis grabbed my arm and turned me around so that I was facing him. "How could you even think of doing something like that to me?" He pulled me into a hug and I wrapped my arms around him, my head snuggling into his chest.
"I'm sorry..." I mumbled because these were the moments I lived for, and the last thing I wanted to do was hurt him by hurting myself.
"I could've lost you." Louis looked away as he started to cry. I took his head into my hands and wiped away the tears.
"You didn't. You didn't lose me. I love you Louis."
"Harry you have got to know by now that I love you. Not her... You." Now it was my turn to grab his hand and pull him towards the car, we could never be anywhere for long without the paparazzi or fans finding out.
As I sat in the passenger seat I turned to face him. "Alright Lou - you win. I know you love me." The rest of the ride home was in silence, but we both knew what today's events had meant. We both knew that we couldn't keep our relationship hidden much longer. But we also knew that if we did nothing about it this secret would tear our lives apart more and more each day.
