Thank you, thank you, thank you, for stiking this awful wait. Chapter 8 is finally here.
Chapter 8
Recap: “Jackie,” He took her hand even though he knew it would make her uncomfortable, “What happened to your sister?”
Jacqueline’s grasp on Dean’s warm hand tightened as he asked about Adeline. She’d never talked to anyone about it before and didn’t really want to start now.
“Adeline,” She breathed heavily as she stumbled over her sister’s name, “Adeline…”
He rubbed circles with his thumb on her cold hand as she struggled to tell him. She didn’t owe him this, she didn’t owe him anything he realized. He was being rude and nosy.
“You don’t have to tell me, Jackie. It’s not really my business. I-“
“Sit down Dean. I’m not going to kill you for asking me a question.” Dean had risen from the swing as he’d started to regret asking her, but he relaxed next to her again as she squeezed his hand in assurance.
“Adeline was 18 when she died.” She paused before she continued, ”You have to realize before I tell you anymore, before you decide to get involved in Axel and I’s life, we’re ruined. Both of us have been through so much. My family isn’t normal, they’re cruel and psychotic. They’re monsters, Dean. Do you understand?”
He nodded even though he didn’t understand completely, but he wanted to, he wanted to know everything about the 17 year old girl sitting in front of him. He wanted to help her, he wanted to be part of her messed up life, however crazy it may be.
“Okay. In my family there’s, or there was, Rance, Adeline, me, and Axel along with our parents and my Dad’s deranged brother. Adeline died by Rance’s hand, or that’s the closest I’ll ever get to knowing who actually killed her.”
Dean continued to rub Jackie’s hand as she shared with him. He began to understand what she meant and how truthful everything she had said was. She looked up at him every now and then to make sure he was still there, that he was still willing to help her and Axel, and each time she did he was there waiting, however long it took for her to get out what she was trying to say. Dean made it easier for her to keep going, to keep telling her story, to keep living.
Did you ever realize lovelies spells love lies, isn't that awful? Thank you once again!
