My mouth fell open. Did I just hear him right? I shook my head. My mom let out a cry, and my dad turned to face the window.

"I'm so sorry," Dr. Guzma said, his eyes full of sympathy. I nodded, a single tear falling from my eye.

"How long does she have?" My mom asked in between sobs. Dr. Guzma picked up his clipboard and studied it for a few seconds.

"We need to run a few more tests to have an exact date," he said, "but we've caught it early enough to get you on treatment to have your life last longer. You have a rare blood cancer that has no cure at all." Treatment. I imagined myself taking chemotherapy, all my hair gone. I grabbed a piece of my hair, not wanting it to all fall out.

"You are probably thinking about chemotherapy," Dr. Guzma said, eyeing my hand with strands of hair running through it, "Chemo wouldn't be able to help you, that's how rare the cancer is. We will give you some pills to help ease the pain and slow the cancer down." I nodded, trying to understand what he was saying. I looked over to my parents, and gave them a silent smile asking them to leave the room. They both nodded and left the room.

"So I'm dying," I said to him, trying to accept the inevitable. He nodded sadly.

"Yes Natalie, I recommend you think about what you want to do with the time you have left, no one is going to stop you from doing those things." He replied. I nodded, another tear running down my cheek. He stood up and left the room. I yelled with anger after he left. I don't wanna die!!! I looked over to my right and saw a notepad and pen. I reached for it and put the notepad in my lap, holding the pen with my right hand. If your time is short, let's make a list. I started writing.

I looked down at my list and smiled, a rush of satisfaction running through me. I tore off the paper and stashed it in my pocket just as all my friends walked into the room.

"So what did they doctor say?" Joey asked me. April sat down on the side of the bed again. I smiled at her, and she smiled back. I can't tell them, not yet at least. I don't want them to pity me. My parents then walked back into the room. They looked at me with sadness.

"Oh he said it was just dehydration, that's all," I answered, glancing at my parents silently begging them to keep quiet. They nodded to me and I sighed in relief.

"That's good, I'm glad there's nothing wrong,"April said, sighing. I smiled weakly. I've never lied to my friends before.

"Since there's nothing wrong, I'm gonna head home," Elaine said, waving to me. I waved back to her as she left the room.

"Me too, bye Natalie," Joey answered, grinning.

"Bye," I replied. Joey then left the room, then Sasha nodded to me and left the room as well.

"I should go too," April said, "do you think you'll be back to school tomorrow?" She stood up and looked at her phone checking for any notifications, or probably telling the rest of my friends that I'm gonna be fine.

"I should be," I answered, kinda sad that I'm gonna have to go back to school, "See ya later, A." She waved to me and left the room, but I could still hear her ankle boots hit the tile floor, as she walked towards the entrance of the hospital. Only Xander stayed. He crossed his arms and looked at me.

"Dehydration huh?" He asked, smirking. Shit. He didn't fall for it.

"Xan..uhh," I said, unsure of what to say.

"It's fine, you don't have to tell me," he replied, sitting down on the side of my bed, "but, if you do want to tell someone, you have me." He winked at me, and then leaned in for a hug. I let him put his arms around me. I felt it slowly get warmer, it made it easier to calm down. I closed my eyes as another tear rolled down my cheek. I remembered the paper, folded and stuffed in my pocket. No matter what, all of those wishes are coming true.
