"Where?" I asked again.
"To the movies," Xander repeated, looking annoyed. He hated having to repeat himself, I've known this for a while, "There's a new movie out and I want to see it." It's not that I wasn't paying attention to him, it's just my mind was a little pre-occupied at the moment. The application was laying down on the table in front of me. I held the pen tightly. I felt Xander look down at the paper.
"Since when have you wanted to work at a pet store?" He asked me.
"Animal shelter," I corrected.
"What?"
"It's an application for the animal shelter down the road."
"Oh."
When I first wrote down my 22nd wish, it didn't occur to me that there wasn't a pet store around here, so I changed it to 'Get a job at an animal shelter.' And it wasn't just the application that was messing with my brain. I was also trying to complete my 21st wish and because of that, I haven't gotten much sleep. It's now Wednesday and the only sleep I've gotten was from an hour and a half power nap after school yesterday.
"Well, do you want to go to the movie with me or not?" Xander asked.
"Sure," I answered, "just let me finish this application." I started filling out the paper. A chair creaked next to me as Xander sat down. He leaned over, reading the paper I was filling out. I stopped and glared at him.
"Can you back up a little?" I asked him, rolling my eyes. He blushed.
"Sorry," he replied, backing up. I nodded and went back to filling out the application. Not seconds later, I heard tapping. It was Xander, without a doubt. I looked up angrily.
"Do you have ADHD?!" I yelled at him, which made him fall off the chair. His head was the first thing to hit the floor. I sighed and got out of my chair and sat down beside him. He was laying on the ground grabbing his head in pain.
"Are you okay?" I asked him. He glared at me.
"Does it look like I'm okay?" He spat out. I chuckled.
"I'm sorry, really sorry Xan," I said, innocently. He groaned then muttered a curse word. I grabbed the hand he was holding his head with.
"Lemme see," I said, moving his hand away. It was a little red, but not bleeding. I got up and got a bag of corn from the freezer. I walked back over to Xander, who was now sitting up, still on the floor. He reached for the frozen bag, but I moved it away.
"I'll do it," I said, pressing the bag onto were he hit his head. We sat there in silence for a minute or two.
"Thank you," Xander said. I smiled at him.
"No problem," I replied. Our eyes met and I realized how close we were to each other. A few inches away from each other, our lips so close to touching. Why did I just think that? I felt my cheeks slowly getting hot.
"Heellllloooooo? Anybody home?" A voice asked, which snapped me out of my trance. We both stood up at the same time and moved away from each other. April popped up in the doorway.
"There you are!" She said, then she looked at me and Xander, "I'm not interrupting something, am I?" At that point, I knew my cheeks were red.
"NO!" I yelled, a bit too loud.
"Okkkkaaaaaayyyyyy," she replied, shrugging her shoulders, "Are we still on for the movie? It's okay if you don't want me to come, I don't wanna be a third wheel or anything..."
"Don't worry!" Xander said, cutting off April, "You can come along!" He chuckled nervously.
"As long as we stop by the animal shelter on the way there, count me in," I said, grabbing the application off the table.
"Great! Let's go!" April exclaimed.

"What movie should we see?" April asked, holding her chin. The only rated-R movie out right now is Spy so it has to be that one.
"How about Spy?" I shot out.
"Hmm, ok," Xander said, "it looks really funny."
"But it's rated-R," April whispered.
"So?" I asked her.
"Even if I did want to see it, we can't, there's no adult with us," April replied. I looked over at the guy selling the tickets. He looked like he was a junior in high school. I smirked.
"Watch and learn," I said, then I gracefully walked over to the boy. I pulled my shirt down a little so it showed some of my...goodies.
"Three tickets for Spy," I said, leaning on the counter.
"ID," he replied, without looking up. I rolled my eyes and cleared my throat.
"It's rude to talk to someone without looking at them," I said with a fake grin. He looked up and his eyes widened.
"Wow," I said, "are you sure someone as handsome as you should be working at some run-down movie theater?" I felt his eyes staring at my chest and I had to resist the urge to slap him. All men are the same.
"Three tickets for Spy," I repeated, huskily, then added, "Please." I batted my eyelashes. He nodded.
"Sure," he said, "that'll be $22.50."
I handed him $25 then said, "Keep the change." I winked at him then jogged back over to April and Xander.
"I am not worthy!" April said, dramatically, "Teach me your ways, Sensei."
"Haha, no," I said, handing her a ticket. We walked into the movie after we got popcorn. It was so much fun that I almost forgot about the Wishes and the cancer that was slowly eating away at me.
