The day started off well enough considering the night before. Me and Flynn got to school early as per usual. We were both sore from the shooting we did the night before but other than that we were chipper as ever. We talked for a bit then went off to our first classes of the day.
As I walked through the hall I suddenly got a creeping sensation down my spine. One I will never forget. I felt as if I was being watched. Now true I was in a school hallway, but this was different. I had never felt like this before. Someone's eyes where drilling into me, grasping me, learning everything they could about me. Everything, even the very atoms in my body. I was frozen. I knew, somehow, that something was up, but before I could put my finger on it the icy presence left just as subtly as it had come. It left me there so long I didn't even realize that the bell went off.
After that fiasco I was late to my first and second hours. I was just so paranoid I kept on looking over my shoulder, but no one was there. So I went about the rest of my day in confusion and paranoia. I got to my fourth hour, I walked in still a bit spooked. We got to pick our seats so I was going to sit down next to Waverley.
I was just about to ask her something when Mr. Hadaway called us to attention. Mr. Hadaway told us to stand up and go to the back of the class.
"Dew to some people's behavior, we will now have assigned setting."
This was very annoying. I was going to talk to her, or at least start the conversation. So needless to say this was a crappy arrangement, well It would have been if I was away from her.
So he began to read the names and pointing to the set that would be sitting in. "... Gray, Shirley, Jackson, Waverly...."
At the sound of her name my ears perked up in anticipation.
"... Steven, Chris, and next row up....".
I was sad but I wasn't mad, he wasn't trying to ruin my plans.
"Christen, Alex, Quinten...."
I tuned him out from there on out as I took my seat. One would say seeing her would be good, considering I was behind her. It wasn't though, it was like life was taunting me. Putting her just far enough so that I could see her, but I couldn't speak to her. It was infuriating! I had just got the courage to talk to her again and then the universe pulled this! It was a few moments before he spoke again.
"Ok now that you are all settled in I will now tell you your assignment..." All eyes were on him, we had a feeling what was about to happen. "... We will be doing a group project,".
Everyone groaned, but I was silently cursing Mr.Hadaway. "I will assign your groups."
That did it, the universe had it out for me. "The groups will be...,"
Now this could had gone two ways, A. I could be in a group with her and we could talk, or, B. I could be shoved into a bunch of rowdy idiots. So I waited to hear ether of our names, "... Steven, Andrew, Waverly, and...." My eyes locked on to Mr.Hadaway as he said the last name. Searing my gaze into him thinking that if I scared him enough he would say my name "... James". I dropped my head. I was disappointed but not mad, I could still talk to her during lunch. He finished giving out the groups and the assignment and we all started on it.
Lunch came around and I still wanted to talk to her. Only one problem. I had no clue where she sat. It had been a long time since I had ate in the commons on a count of "The Quinten", but now that it was over I could go out in the commons again. So I walked around and I couldn't find her anywhere. I knew she had lunch with me I had sean her schedule. I asked some of her other friends and they didn't think she did. It was odd. She was never ever late to any classes so the idea that she ditched school was impossible.
I continued to look but found nothing. It was like she just vanished. I decided, with a heavy heart, to end my search and get something to eat. I walked over to the, now, empty lunch line. I got my food and walked out still keeping an eye out for Waverly as I walked over to my table. I sat with a group of people that most would consider smart arses. So my kinda of people.
There was Jake, he was our sarcastic, give no crap, Asian. We also had Katherine, the smart, kind, writer that feel out of the conversation when video games came up. Mark was Katherine's significant other, though you could say they were dating. Mark was a kinda guy who always tried to see the best in people and was generally a nice guy. Now I had sat with this group for a while before and was comfortable with them but, I was not close enough to have deep conversations with. So we joked and debated as the table always did. I didn't contribute much though mostly watched and snickered when something funny happened. Katherine picked up on my quietness.
"Hay Quinten what's wrong?" She asked. "I know you haven't been here in a while but you were never this quiet." It was loud at the table so only I heard the question."I'm fine," I lied. I was still upset about not being able to find Waverly.
"Quinten, seriously, what's wrong,"
"Well," I said. "I was looking for Waverly, she has this lunch but I couldn't find her, "
"Hum," she said thinking for a moment. "Well, it is possible she had to leave,"
"Yea, I thought that but none of her other friends even realized she had this lunch, weird right?" She took a bit longer to think this time.
"Yea that is a bit strange," She said a bit confused herself. "Well you can ask her the next time you see her," she suggested smiling.
Lunch ended shortly after and I had more food for thought than actual food.. Where did Waverly go during lunch? And why? I asked Lindesy but she also had no clue where she went.
I whent the rest of the day without so much of a whisper from Waverly. I didn't bring it up for the rest of the day but waited impatiently for the end of the day. The ending bell rang and everyone got up and left in a hurry. I went to the place we used to meet before we left for home. I got there and to my surprise she was there. She was wearing a very heavy scarf and jacket so I nearly didn't recognise her. She was talking with someone so I waited for a moment so I could talk to her one on one. She finished talking and started to head off. I cough up to her just before she got to the doors. I was wearing my classic get up, a gray sweatshirt and jeans. She spoke first.
"Oh, Hi Quinten. It has been a while," She said a little surprised and a little sad.
"Yea..." I said a little ashamed and lower my head, "It has,"
"Well, Um," She said scratching her head. "I was just about to go out and get some lunch, you wanna meet at Mito's Brews?"
"Sure I will be over there as soon as I can," I said happy she didn't seem to hate me at all but I was also surprised.
"Is there anything you want me to order for you?" She asked nicely.
"Do they have lemonade? It has been a while since I have bean their."
"Yeah They still have lemonade, I will order one for you, see you there," She said before going off to her car. I was generally in shock on how well it went.
Things were looking up back then, and now.
