I woke up to Flynn knocking on the door. I groaned and rolled over. It was only then I became aware of my alarm clock going off. I was gonna be late to school.

"My bad, Flynn!" I called out, a little too loudly. "I'll get dressed, just wait downstairs," The knocking stopped and hurried foot steps faded away from the door.

I genuinely rushed that morning. I really wanted to see Waverly. So, I shoved my legs into some pants and put on the first shirt I saw.

It was during my frenzy to get my backpack when I looked at my calendar. I had completely forgot that after this week it was winter break! That got me really pumped. So as I finally got my stuff together, I was in a great mood.

"Let's go," I told Flynn, who was quickly shoving food into his mouth.

"Finally, you got up," He said with his jaw full. He swallowed a large gulp, ran over to me, and we walked out into the chilly morning air. I ran over to my jeep and turned on the engine. I yelled at Flynn,

"Hurry up!" He looked at me with a cocky grin and began to walk in slow motion.

"Sorry, what did you say Quinten? I couldn't hear you over the sound of irony!" I shook my head, my eyes rolling.

"Get your butt over here, you damn, intelligent fool." After he got into the car, we took off. It was getting more and more chilly, so I had to wear a jacket, which I despised. I didn't mind the feeling, it was just the fact that I had to wear something extra. It just felt, unnecessary. Like baggage.

The two of us walked through the front doors of the school late, as expected. But we were still early for most people. Flynn parted ways, because he needed some help with his math. I, on the other hand, sat down at my regular spot at a table nearest to the doors.

I pulled out my laptop to start working on a project, and was just about to pull up my document when Katherine came up to me.

"Hey there, Mr. Lamppost," She greeted mockingly.

"Well, I was doing well until Ms. Garden Gnome showed up," I retorted. We both chuckled at that. But then, Katherine pulled up a chair and punched me on the shoulder. "Owch! What was that for?" I rubbed the skin, pouting at her.

"Just gotta remind you that I can still whoop your sorry butt," She said. Katherine was small, but she was hard as nails, scary even. Besides that, she still was the sweetest and kindest person you would ever meet. She was a very skilled writer, and has a dream of being a commercial pilot.

"Well," I changed the subject, "What have you been up to?"

"Mark and I had our first date. it was awesome!" She replied happily.

Mark and Katherine had always been a cute couple, and I was excited for her. Hearing about a date reminded me of Waverly. And the hug.

My face must have turned red as a tomato because the next thing she said was,

"Ah... So, who is she?"

"Wha- What's mean?" I stuttered in mock surprise. Katherine giggled at my poor attempt at playing it off.

"Come on man! What happened? You know I have been hoping for so long that you would find someone," she begged. I was shocked that she cared so much, and honestly didn't know what to say. Luckily or not, I didn't need to.

"Wait, don't tell me, Let me guess." She took a moment, still looking at me with a stare that would make the Devil nervous. Then her face lit up. "No way! Waverly? You went out with Waver..." I quickly covered her mouth before she could tell the whole school.
