Heather Ryan, when she was young she lived in Riverdale and best friends with Ethel. In fifth grade she moved to a town called Hawkins in Indiana. There she grew up and her father started to become abusive. Verbal abuse towards her and her mother mostly, nothing towards her younger brother. In eighth grade her parents separate and her mother and younger brother move back to Riverdale. She's left with her father for two years enduring the abuse which grew from verbal to physical. To get her mind off of the abuse she started baking a grew a love for it. Baking sent her mind to a world without any problems. When sophomore year starts her and her father move to back to Riverdale, leaving her to hop between housing with her parents. Betty is the one who gives Heather a tour of the school and Heather starts talking about baking. Betty takes Heather to Riverdale's baker and Heather picks up a part-time job there. Betty then introduces Heather to Veronica which then leads to meeting the others. Heather becomes friends with the main group and is reunited with Ethel. She becomes good friends with Veronica and Jughead. Her and Archie had a small fling once, just a kiss and they were back to being friends. As she started to work at the bakery, she'd see Jughead walk by and sometimes he'd stop in and say hi. One day at school, he asks her if he could have the left over baked goods that usually get thrown out. She agrees to it and after work when the bakery closes she gives him the extra baked goods and he'd walk her home. Over time as this continues; one day Heather makes a special cookie for Jughead, one shaped and decorated just like his beanie. One day after that as he's taking her home, with the news about the drive-in closing, he asks her if she has an extra room in one of her houses that maybe he could stay in for awhile. She tells him that she'd have to check and asks why he's asking. Jughead is hesitant at first but tells Heather that he's been living at the drive-in. He also asks her not to tell the others and she promises she won't. Heather manages to convince her mother to lend the guest bedroom to Jughead. One day during the summer the whole group goes over to the Riverdale lake for a picnic and a little swimming and Heather joins. Veronica and Betty try to convince Heather to join them in the water but she keeps telling them no. Leaving Jughead and Heather on land, they chat. Heather finally gives into Veronica's plea to join them amd so does Jughead. Heather goes behind a tree to do a quick change into her swimsuit. Jughead notices some bruising on Heather's leg and she passes it off as a lie about a baking mixer falling and hitting her leg. When Junior year starts Heather and Jughead get a few classes with each other. There he starts noticing more bruises and he keeps asking about them. He realizes that he noticed them before in sophomore year too. He asks the others about it and they say they don't know anything about it. Whenever he or anyone asks, Heather lies about it. Over and over again.
