Somewhere Along the Road

Making Connections

  We sat on the bus for who knows how long with the smell of cow feces lingering in the air as we drive past farms. I use my jacket to cover my nose. "Smells lovely" . I look out the window, murky grey skies and dark clouds that loom through the air. " I swear if it rains I'm done" Connor zips up his red flannel jacket. I turn around quickly to look at Connor. "I would be pissed I've been waiting months for this trip... no turning back now, i'd still go on rides if there was a tornado 'bout to hit, no stopping me." Connor slams his window shut and reaches for his backpack. "No stopping you?" Connor reaches in his bag for a Coke and tosses it to me. I swiftly pop off the cap and gently place it in my pocket. "Thanks" "don't mention it" I stretch my arms and take I swig of the coke. "I totally would ride the rides in a tornado, I've never done somthin' like this," Connor opens a bag of chips and starts chowing down making a lot of noise in the process. "Interesting" My other friend Aria glares over at us from another seat her freckles stand out from her pale face in the murky sky. " You're wayyyyyy to excited... its a water park... like every other one... but it's big." I slump back in my seat with by back on the bottom of the seat and flail my arms back. "Well I can be excited anyways" I murmur. Aria turns around in her seat and looks over at me and Connor and points towards the window "if it rains we aren't doing Shit, and thats prolly gonna happen, Alex was right." Connor folds up his bag of chips and stuffs them in his pocket wiping his hands on his black jeans, leaving orange nacho powder all over. I take another drink of my coke and put the cap on it. "And what happens if we can't because it rains?" I set my coke down on the seat next to Connor. "I don't know Flynn maybe we just go home" Connor replies. "Ripoff" Aria laughs and picks both of her legs up and puts them on the seat " I mean when I get home i'm just gonna watch Netflix the whole summer so I mean I could care less." I look over at Aria in distastefulness for her response. "You could at least try to be enthused." "I am just, not for what you want me to be enthused for." "You should fix that" "make me" "I will!" "have fun with that!" "Again I Will!" "good!" "Thank you!" "Your frickfracking welcome!" Connor looks at us like we're both crazy which indeed we are. I've been friends with Aria a lot longer than Connor so Connor is always learning something new about our relationship. "You guys need help luckily the doctor's in!" I give Connor a blank stare and slowly shake my head back and forth. "No?" he ask. I nod. Aria looks out the window and gestures towards a sign that reads -Noah's Ark America's Largest Waterpark!- I begin getting ready to get out the bus opening my bag and making sure everything's in there, even though it doesn't matter because if something wasn't in there we weren't not going back anyway. Aria looks at me in confusion. "What?" I ask. "That's a sign telling us there are 10 miles left calm your shit." I repeatedly bang my head against the seat in front of me as hard as I can. Connor checks to see if anyone is sitting in said seat. "Flynn" bang "there" bang "is someone" another bang "in that seat." I stop my banging and look up to see an extremely annoyed face. I sit back without out a word. "Your an idiot" Connor chuckles. Aria looks at me with a humored face  she moves her short auburn hair out the way exposing her Sea Green eyes. I can't tell if she's laughing with or at me. I look back out the window still no sign of sunlight. Damn. "Aria" Connor swiftly turns to meet Aria. "Are you wearing your swimsuit underneath your clothes?" Aria shakes her head "No I have to change when we get there I didn't think this far ahead" " AGH" The whole bus screams as we hit a Speed bump entering the parking lot. We pull in and we see a lot more buses than expected all kinds of buses from schools that had A LOT more money than we did. Why so many people? Meanwhile while i'm questioning why so many people Connor pushes me into the aisle. "Let's go Nerd! you're the one who's been sooo excited to get here!" I grin at the remark and stand up grabbing my bag in the process. We manage to get off the bus without breaking any limbs in the process, which is a miracle considering the high amount of pushing and shoving that happens while getting off the bus. We reach the entrance and wait in line, the park hasn't opened yet. Giant water slides line the inside of the park, one even goes upside down We are handed a ticket and wait in line. I clutch my ticket carefully and smoothly slide it into my pocket. I reach and my bag for my coke and sip it down as we reach the front of the line. In around 5 minutes were there and I reach in my pocket for my ticket. She takes the coke in my hand and throws it in the trash "no external beverages in the park" I grit my teeth nod and walk into the park. Inside jets of water spewed from the ground I look around for the rest of my friends.
