The Afternoon Streets

The sun shines brightly on the torn road. A jagged road filled with cracks that are crudely filled with tar. The Metro pulls up to our station, Me and Connor rush off the bus. Each step creates an obnoxious squeaking noise, almost as if each step we were kicking a mouse.

We step onto the cracked sidewalk. Each square filled with little wheel prints as if a toddler decided to ride through it with a scooter then got stuck. Connor takes of his flannel and raps it around his waist, then uses his sweaty hands to almost gel his hair back. I swipe the sweat off my face and begin to walk. "That was fun wasn't it?" Connor ask as he looks towards the busy street on the way to my house.

"Yeah." I respond looking at the road as well. "Nice way to start the summer, If only Alex would have went we would be in a nice air conditioned car instead of this." I continue. Connor nods then checks his phone. "97 degrees whoa boy, what happened to the groggy weather that was this morning." Connor looks into the sky. "YO! you should totally bring back the nice calm cool weather like we would appreciate it." I check my phone 7:00. Damn. Two hours since we left the park. This day flew past, A little upsetting to be honest. I look at Connor. "Next year we are Juniors dude!" He smiles. "The "Queens" Of the school." I stop at  the crossroad as a car pulls by and gesture for him to go. "Still better then the Jacks we were this year."

I look around at the urban environment. Trees and buildings everywhere. A nice little community with kind people. Cars pass in a rush down the street into the busy downtown area of the city not too far from here. "Why didn't Aria come with us again?" Connor ask starring at his phone. I shake my head from the mini trance I was in. "Rich people stuff, Who knows what her parents are doing with her. They have a little too much money, Remember in 8th grade when they paid more than $6000 so we could all go on the trip to Washington D.C? Me, you, her and Alex?" Connor laughs. "Yeah that was sweet.

Connor slides his phone into his pocket. He slings around the bag on his shoulder and zips it open.  Pulling out another Coke for the both of us. He flicks it to me by the cap. "You aren't helping my addiction, But thanks." I swiftly discard the cap and chug the whole drink and stuff the bottle in my bag. The sun still is beaming down. I go to check my phone. It's dead. "Ugh, goddamn phone died, whatever the house is close." We turn around a corner that has the signature Asian Gas station. We stare at it indefinitely as we walk. We cross the busy street to my house the front yard missing grass in little patches. We approach the door and slide it open.

I go directly to my room passing through my small apartment room. My room is arranged with a bed on the right side from were you enter. A desk sits in my right corner were my phone charger lays. I forcefully take my phone out and lay it on the charger. "Yo Flynn, what's the plan for tonight?" Connor ask walking into my room. I scratch my head. "More King's Knight?" Connor smiles. "I was hoping you would, I came prepared." He states as he pulls a PS4 controller out of his backpack. "I will be right out there, go set it up." He nods. "O.k." He leaves the room. My phone vibrates shaking the desk." Aria's name shows up on my  phone. Text lines underneath her name: Hey, sucks I couldn't hang out with you guys, but summer just started so we still have time. Me you Connor and Alex should meet up tomorrow at the baseball field. I smile, turn of my phone and leave the room, to play king's Knight with Connor.
