As the mermaid swam away from the surface, she wondered if she would ever come back. Being on the surface with land people made her feel like it was a second home for her. It was always peaceful to just get out of the water sometimes. She met a boy around her age named Jason.
They bumped into each other while she was walking on the street one day. Unfortunately, there was a puddle of water next to her due to it raining the previous day. As she fell into the puddle of water, she transformed into her mermaid self. Jason was shocked to see this and didn't know what to do.
He then scooped her up in his arms and headed to his house. Once they arrived at his house, he handed a towel to dry her tail. After her tail was completely dried, her tail went back into being legs. She and Jason shared an awkward silence between each other.
5 minutes passed and Jason started to ask a load of questions. She answered all of them to let him know about herself. After answering all of his questions, Jason started to tell the story about himself. She soon found out that Jason used to live on the streets and got adopted by a man named Bruce.
Him and Bruce were the best of friends until his adopted mother Martha was hit by a car and pronounced dead on the scene. Bruce wasn't himself after the accident and he blamed Jason for it. He than ran away and bought a house to start a new life. She felt really bad for him but she told him that everything will be okay.
Jason and herself became the best of friends afterwards.... or so they thought. The next day was one of the worst days out of her life. She was about to approach the door, a hand went over her mouth to hide her voice. The knocking on the door became louder and louder by the second. She was so scared out of her life at this moment. She was then forced to walk backwards until the stranger's back was against the wall.
Her mind was trying to figure out who it was until the stranger told her " Calm down, it's me, Jason." She was so relieved when he said those words. "Come on, we need to get out of here. I'll explain everything later." She then nodded her head in a yes motion. Suddenly, the knocking on the door stopped and she didn't know why.
You could hear footsteps that sounded like the person was walking away from the door. As they waited for what felt like an eternity, he let go of her. Jason then started to explain what the knocking on the door was about. It was his adopted father Bruce trying to get him back. He would usually do this when he feels lonely at the house. He never wants to go back with Bruce because he fells like he doesn't pay any attention to him.
She felt like Jason in a way because this happened to her. Her father and mother would disapprove of anything she wanted to do. They ignored her at a very young age which caused her to go into depression. That's why she went to the surface so she could clear her head of things. She loved almost everything about the surface land.
It was like she belonged here with Jason in a way. Her thoughts were interrupted by a hand landing on her wrist, pulling her to the side door of the house. " C'mon, lets get out of here." Jason had a smile on his face as he said those words.
As they opened the side door, you could see the night sky. She was speechless of how the sky looked. It was like the stars danced around the sky in a slow motion as she twirled around on the ground. She finally felt free of what she was trying to hide and run away from. This feeling was something that caused her to laugh and cry tears of joy.
Freedom.
