Hey, gurls!
So, let's just go ahead and get to the chapter.
BTW, italics are the words of Scott's 'friend'.
*Scott POV*
"Scott!"
I looked up to see my friend, Danny, sitting by my desk.
"Hey, Dan," I said, grateful to have a break from my homework.
"It's been a while. How've you been?"
"I've been fine," I reassured him, "School's challenging, though."
"Aw!" he said, frowning slightly, "I wish I could help, Scooter."
I frowned as well, hating to see my friend upset.
Suddenly, my mom poked her head in the room.
"Scott," she said, "are you talking to someone? You should be doing your work."
"I know," I said, "but Danny came to visit."
My mom gave me a confused look, then glanced over to where I was pointing.
"Hi, Mrs. Hoying!" Danny said, but my mom turned back to me, and her look went from confused to concerned.
"Scott," she said, "Have you been taking your medicine like you're supposed to?"
"No," I confessed, "I couldn't concentrate with it."
"Why do you take that stuff anyway, Scott?" Danny asked curiously, "You don't need it."
"I know," I said, glancing back at him, "but apparently, Mom thinks I need it."
"Scott, who are you talking to?" Mom asked.
"Mom, you can see that I'm talking to Danny," I said, gesturing over to him.
Mom shook her head, and she looked like she was about to cry.
Her next words would haunt me for a while afterwards:
"Scott, there's no one else here."
