2: Welcome to the Land of Waves

I lied on my back with my arms comfortably behind my head, gazing at the sky through hooded eyes. The sun shined brightly, the golden rays turning my sun depraved, alabaster skin a pale pinkish color.

I couldn't believe it; I was finally free. A small smile appeared at the thought, and, for the first time in forever, the world and its crazy antics seemed bearable. Against all odds, I had managed to escape the place that imprisoned me for years, navigated my way through the murky underground tunnels of the Land of Wolves, and I was finally making my way towards freedom.

A strip of land rose above the beautiful blue waters of the sea in the distance, signaling our approach to the Land of Tea. I sat up, immediately catching Mayonaka's attention and causing her to turn her narrow head to face me. Her golden eyes regarded me with curiosity for a few moments before turning her head to the front as she soared through the skies. I knew, however, that Mayonaka was still focused on me despite her lack of eye contact; I could hardly allow her to crash because of my selfishness.

Addressing the aquatic dragon, I said, "We'll make a stop in the Land of Tea before moving on. I need to gather some supplies for the rest of the journey, and I also want to give you a break before traveling again. If all goes well, we should reach Hoshigakure by sunrise."

Mayonaka snorted in approval before beginning her descent to the water below. I quickly activated seigyoso and tapped Mayonaka's neck twice. Almost immediately, the female dragon tucked her wings to her side, diving into the freezing sea.

Keeping a firm grip on Mayonaka with one hand, I raised to other to my face, palm facing out, and pushed it away from me. A pocket of air formed in front of my face, allowing me to breathe easily.

We glided smoothly through the water for a few minutes until we reached shallower waters. At this point, I floated off Mayonaka's back and swam towards where the shore should be.

Right as I surfaced, I released my seigyoso weaved the handsigns for the transformation jutsu. Smoke surrounded me, providing cover while my appearance changed. My hair shortened to a boyish cut and the blonde faded to a dull brown. The black robe I wore changed into a black polo shirt with a red undershirt and jeans. I decided to keep my eyes their ocean blue color, not wanting to waste too much chakra should something arise.

Once the transformation was complete, I sprinted inland, hoping to run into a market place. I continued until buildings became dense enough to suggest a town being located just ahead. Slowing down to a peaceful walk, I resumed my search for any type of shopping area.

People strolled through the streets, chatting with neighbors over the trivial matters of life. Occasionally, they would throw questioning glances my way. I, however, ignored most of the stares, pretending to be a traveler that was merely admiring the town.

It really was beautiful though; flower blossoms were in bloom and the villagers seemed content to bask in the warm rays of the sun. This place seemed to taunt me with its peaceful aura, reminding me that I had something important to do.

As if hearing my darkening thoughts, my stomach growled, efficiently snapping me out of my bittersweet reverie. I still needed to buy supplies otherwise I'm not sure how well I would respond to any type of emergency. In this world, dropping your guard or revealing weakness could get you killed.

I picked up my pace, determined to finally grab some provisions and leave this place. In the end, I had to go to several kiosks in order to collect specific items. It took around an hour to find everything, but now I was ready to continue towards our next stop, the Land of Bears.
