I hate gatherings, large or small, mainly because I do not enjoy small talk at all. Yet, I find myself at my girlfriend’s house with some of her friends, Elliot, and Mia. I summon my charming persona and pretend to give a shit – honestly all I want is to be alone with my girl.

There is Tina, a non-descript brunette that keeps talking about her sister who seems to be a big time model. Name dropping model names does not impress me – Tina needs to forget being second to her pretty sister and become more assertive.

Then there is Linda, a very outgoing African-American with large expressive black eyes; I like her, she is not trying to impress me nor is she trying to get my attention in any way – perhaps she is gay, nothing wrong with that.

Finally, the Kavanagh siblings: Ethan, and Kate, both strawberry blonds and quite confident – overly so I think, they remind me of their father, a middle aged balding man head of Kavanagh Media.

I am good at socializing, I have mastered the art; it is business to me. Meet, greet, and close the deal; in as small amount of time as possible. So, I sit here, drinking a no name wine, and eating burgers that Elliot finished grilling with Ethan’s help. The pretext is to celebrate the completion of all the work in Ana’s apartment. I lift my eyes from my cellphone, smile, and shake hands – Grey, treat it like a business, and Ana is the deal I am closing tonight.

My goofball of a brother has moved away from the grill and is now playing the guitar. He makes a decent Elvis impersonation; I have seen it many times, ever since we were in high school, the same old moves get the same old reactions

Doesn’t get old: doing the same shitty moves just for a piece of ass? – I am not sure what he sees in the astute Kavanagh girl, but he seems taken with her.

Mia, on the other hand, is as boisterous as usual. However, she is flirting non-stop; all, I suppose, to get in the Kavanagh boy’s pants – maybe I should tell her he probably will lose his hair by age forty. It is quite embarrassing but she is a big girl; though, if he hurts her, I won’t hesitate to chop off his balls.

Elliot did a great job, I think.” Kate moves her hands as to emphasize what she is talking about.

“I am pleased; it was done within the expected time frame.” I answer the ever inquisitive Ms. Kavanagh; she wrinkles her forehead and soon leaves me alone – I think she does not like me much.

I am sitting here drinking cheap wine and being my charming self.  Because, I rationalize, it makes my girl happy and a happy girlfriend makes for a happy Christian. I gather that my siblings and I have more in common than I realized – the three of us are after a good fuck tonight. I chuckle at the thought; and control the sudden urge to strangle the Kavanagh boy.

Ana comes by with her glass of wine and sits next to me; I take my gorgeous Ana in my arms and pull her in to my lap inhaling her sweet aroma. Ana settles her head on my shoulder and sighs. Yes a good fuck for tonight – but not only that. For the foreseeable future, I also want her by my side during the night and during the day; in my arms for the world to see she is mine. My heart and stomach jerk at that realization, before it has always stopped at a good fuck. All the women I have been with have been beautiful if not gorgeous, all of them made my dick twitch but not my stomach and never my heart.

Are you O.K?

“Yes.”

How was your day?

I pat her thigh to buy time, her question startles me. “Good, I suppose. The same old thing; meetings and calls and such.” I never had anyone asked me that without a specific reason to do so.
