Why did you like Kai? You laid there concentrating on your homework, So Young's question replaying in your head over and over again.
You didn't think about it much and when she asked, you never gave her an answer. Why? Because it was a story you would like to keep
to yourself. It was one of those things that you didn't know whether it really happened or not because it happened so quick, but
you had this gut feeling that it was real. She didn't know that you had a crush on Kai, from what you knew, and you never
made it obvious. You were one of those people that didn't like people to know how you were really feeling, so you put up a barrier,
and at times you knew it was your downfall.
_________
It happened when you were younger. You knew Kai since you were little, like everyone else, because you all went to school together.
When you were young, you didn't have many friends, in fact you didn't have any because you hadn't meet So Young until your first year in
high school, and you found yourself alone a lot. You didn't talk much to people and people didn't try to talk to you. Usually you would
just watch people, and when you weren't in class, you were in the library, or on the roof. Over time though you started developing
feelings for this one boy in your class. You watched him and how he talked so easily with people, making friends, joining clubs, and
you wished that you were more like that. He was cute, and from what you knew he seemed like a nice guy, or from what everyone had said.
It was second semester of your third year in middle school. You finally had enough courage to tell him you liked him. It was after
school in the hallway when you saw him alone, so you took a chance. You walked up to him before your nerves got a
hold of you and you told him that you liked him, that you had liked him since the beginning of third year. He looked at you as you spoke.
Not saying anything, he seemed intent on what you were telling him. After you said all that you had to say, you clutched your
hands together staring at the ground. He told you to look at him and you did, blushing because you had never been so close to a
boy before, as he looked into your eyes. You didn't know what to expect, but it certainly wasn't what he had said next. The words
still haunted you, "How could I like someone like YOU, your a nobody." Just that one line and you broke down. You went home
with your heart hurting. It wasn't the end of the world, so you didn't take it to the grave, but the next day was worse. When you got to
school people began to whisper about you. Boys would laugh in class, girls would tease you saying, "Who do you think you are
to ask him.". "Your a nobody." "No one even knows your name.". All these comments built up, one on top of the other. You ended up
ditching the rest of the school day, going to a river bank, crying your eyes out. You didn't know how long you were there until
someone came and sat down next to you, not saying a word. The person just began to throw rocks across the river and you brought your
eyes up to see who it was. It was a boy, you looked at his name tag, Kim Jongin. He looked longingly across the water, the sun shinning on
his face, and for a moment you forgot why you were crying. He didn't say a word, he just put his arm out towards you, handing you
a daisy. You didn't know what to do, so you just took it. Once taking it from his hand, he stood up and began to walk away.
You watched him walk away, his back facing you. Before he was too far, he turned around and looked at you saying,
"Everyone blossoms at some time."
____________
At first you didn't get what he meant, he just turned back around and walked away. From then on you saw him more at school. He
was always with his group of friends, yet he seemed so locked up. It seemed like he truly liked his friends, but for some reason it
was like something was missing. He looked as if he was searching for something, but was unable to find it. Even now in high school
he had the same look, though him and his friends got more popular. Girls began to like him and he dated often, though they never
lasted long. He wasn't great at school and put his passion into dancing. He was cold to people besides his friends, but every time he
saw you, he would say hello and when you were at the dance room he would talk to you, showing you that little bit of himself.
He didn't smile much, but you hoped to change that one day. You didn't mind that he put up a wall though, you were the same and
whatever openness he would give you, you would take it. Not expecting more, not pushing it. For a second you thought about it.
Maybe that was the problem.
