Epilogue: Taking Over

She personally went to see the body of the dead fairy king. She was surprised how much he resembled his son, or the other way around, rather. Other than the now sealed wound in his side, the body was whole and perfect, down to the wings. Some of her people had wanted to take the king's wings, too, but she had violently shot down the idea. Even she wasn't willing to risk devastation by taking the wings of the fairy king. No, it would be suicide.

When she was satisfied with the state of the fairy kingdom she returned to her newest victory. It seemed fitting-a castle, a fortress. She smiled. Raelynn had been adamant against its acquisition, but she was dead now. And everything Rae had been too narrow-minded to attempt was now hers to control. She didn't have a distraction in the form of a troublesome kid. She was more focused on an ultimate goal, to be achieved by all means.

Raelynn had made her gravest mistake near the end, handing the reins to her. Raelynn might rule by blood, but she controlled with power. Granted, she would never be as powerful as Raelynn was, magically. But with the new power Raelynn had handed to her on a silver platter, she had orchestrated the assassination of the second most powerful fairy monarch, acquired one of the most powerful, ancient fortresses in history and subdued the biggest threat there was, something Raelynn had somehow never managed to do, with a simple illusion.

She was willing to use everything she had. The others were all just pawns under her command. She was the queen, after all, and she could move any way she wanted.
