-----Melanies P.o.V
I hand the cab driver a $20 bill before Jackie and I frantically run out the cab and run toward a covered area, avoiding the rain.
As I take out my phone to check the time, it starts vibrating just as Miles' name appears on the screen.
Jackie looks down at the screen, then at me concerned.
"W-Why is he calling you?" She asks, signs of worry noticeable in her tone.
I shrug, "He's probably wondering why we haven't showed up yet." I inform her. "Miles isn't like that, you know?" I bite down on my lip, assuming she knows what I mean. She looks down at her feet and slowly nods.
"Well, are you gonna answer it?" I accept his call, in response to her question.
She ruffles through her bag, paranoid, as I place the phone against my ear.
"Hello, Melanie?" Miles voice rings through my ear, but distracted by Jackies question, I let it run through the other.
She fishes out her phone and frowns at the realisation that it's not on.
"For God's sake, it was switched off." She holds down the power button and the screen lights up on her face.
"Um.. Melanie?" He calls me again and I snap back into reality.
"Oh yeah sorry, hey, Jackie and I are at the ice cream parlour.. um can I call you back?" I speak fast, not really thinking about what I say as my eyes are fixed on Jackie's phone screen in concern. Why is she so worried about her phone being off?
"Wait, what? What about the party? Are you guys still coming?" He continues to speak but I zone out as I let my eyes wander on her screen, revealing the messages sent from Josh. I read each one as she scrolls through them, tears falling from her eyes and splashing onto the screen.
She begins to tremble, the messages become more violent each time.
josh: where tf are you?
josh: im waiting for you, hurry tf up
josh: get over here now.
josh: do you want to be punished?!
josh: ANSWER MY CALLS
josh: you are so getting it tonight..
josh: such a shame, just as you were starting to heal
josh: don't forget about what i'll do if anybody sees these messages baby, you can say bye bye to everything you love.
I snatch the phone out of her hand before she has a chance to read through the rest of the messages. I toss her phone into my bag and wrap an arm around her."Jackie this relationship is toxic!" I shake my head, frustrated, furious. I hang up on Miles with no warning and move my hand around her wrist. "We need to talk about this, now."
Jackie suddenly erupts in an outburst of tears. She stares at me with her tear soaked eyes as she begins hyperventilating.
"Jackie!" I start to violently cry and shake my head. Anger rises up inside of me and I feel something inside of me crack. I march up to her until only mere centimetres seperate us. She buries her face in her hands and sobs into them. I press my index finger against the shield she has created with her hands and speak through my gritted teeth.
"I'm not letting him put you through this anymore, we are going to the police Jackie and we are going now." My eyebrows inch closer together and the crease between them deepens with each word.
My phone starts to ring and I step back from her, quickly checking to see who's calling. "It's Miles."
She takes her hands away from her face, revealing her dripping mascara. The tears run down her cheek, diluting her foundation, uncovering parts of her healing bruised eye.
"M-Melanie." The words barely force their way out her mouth. She struggles to speak, her tone uneven, about to crack and burst into tears once again.
She speaks quietly, whisper-like. Tears making their way over her chapped lips and sinking into the tough pink collagen.
"We can't go to the police."

Jackies P.o.V
"We can't go to the police." I tell her. I purse my lips together, the salty tears leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
His threats flood in my mind. Trapping and confining my own thoughts.
My body quickly transforms into lock down mode.
My heart races in my chest, it becomes difficult to think. Melanie speaks, angrily. I can't comprehend what she's saying, her hand gestures telling me it's not good.
I start to walk backwards and lean against the front of a store. The ice cream parlour acts as the only source of light, everything around me is dark.
Melanie moves closer to me, yelling. I slide down against the wall until I'm seated. I shut my eyes and try and shut her out.
More tears stream through my closed eyes, I try to catch my breath.
"M-Melanie, s-stop." I pant between each word, starting to feel dizzy.
Reminding me, I should've taken my medication.
I slowly open my eyes, Melanie kneeling in front of me. She places her hands on my shoulders as her eyes slowly become stained with tears.
I bring my hands up to my head and rest my elbows on my knees. Looking down at the concrete ground in between my legs.
"I'm sorry, Jackie." She speaks quietly, her voice sympathetic. She offers me her hand, "Let's go home, we can talk tomorrow. You need some rest.
She frowns at me as I willingly take her hand.
"I'll call for another cab." As she helps me stand up her eyes wander to the ice cream parlour.
"Do you still want to get ice cream?" She offers.
My expressionless face locks onto hers and I slowly nod.
She smiles.

wow that was lowkey not good
like i said b4 this is kind of an intro to their situation and stuff
if you couldn't tell, josh basically has some things that could affect jackie so he forces her to stay in the relationship otherwise he could "expose" her or hurt her etc.
hope you guys are starting to like this??
lots of love
