Away

I ran from him to my room, it was the size of a closet but it was my sanctuary, my safe-haven. I ran without thinking. He wouldn't follow right? I was a lowly servant, no one to fuss about. But I was his mate.

I heard shouting coming from down the hall. I didn't recognise the voice, maybe it was him. But a second voice, farther away, shouted too. It was muffled but both sounded very angry.

I gathered the bag I had packed a week ago, filled with the necessaries to start a new life. Far away from here.

I quietly left the room and hurried down the hall to the servant staircase in a back corner. I was being careful not to make too much noise, I didn't want to alert anyone. I made it to the back door and opened it, the cool night air welcomed me and I took my first step outside in six years.

.....*.....

Months. It's been months since I've seen him, my mate. I feel guilty for leaving him but he'll find someone better looking and they'll have beautiful babies and I won't ever have to see him again.

I thought about all that as I cleaned the Baker's hardwood floor. I had found a job as a maid in a city three States over from my pack. They wouldn't venture out here, it was riddled with rogues.

"You can go home now, honey. You're twenty minutes over quitting time." Mrs. Baker said as she entered the dining room.

"Sorry, ma'am." I picked up my cleaning equipment and scurried to put it back in the closet. I left soon after and wandered down the streets, letting myself get lost and taken in with the crowds.

It was a large city but not as big as New York. It had lots of quaint little shops and restaurants, perfect for wallflowers like me, easy to go unnoticed and hear juicy bits of gossip. My favorite place was a café a little ways from my apartment, El Beso, the kiss in Spanish.

I made my way to it and entered barely noticed as always. I took my usual seat in the corner and looked around for my  patrons.

Two older men sat at the seats diagonally across from me, Frank and Nate, war veterans and brothers. For the most part the talked about trivial things but sometimes they would tell war stories to each, they were in different parts of the same country and some such. It was very informative.

Next to me were three girls about my age. They talked about the boys at they're school and all the latest fashions. It was funny to hear how meaningless their conversations were but I listened to their stories and played them out in my head like a soap opera. Apparently the blonde's boyfriend flirted with a different girl whom was suppose to be her close friend, and the first brunette is bffs with the other girl and the second brunette hates her guts.

They started talking about their hair and which shampoo they used. I stopped listening as my cup of coffee showed up. I took a small sip and looked for the last, most favorite patron.

Just as I thought he wouldn't come today, he strode in through the door. He wore a tan trench coat and no wedding ring. He was attractive for a human. He sat down in his usual spot on the other side of the small sit in part of the café. I watched him pull out his laptop and start typing away.

I stayed for a long time, after all, I had got done with the Baker's at noon and nothing else was scheduled. The girls had left and the brothers were seemingly getting ready to leave by the time I had finished my first cup of coffee. The man was still typing away.

I looked at the clock on the wall, 4:34. I looked down at my cup wondering if I should get another. Then I noticed the tick-tack of a keyboard had stopped. I looked up to find the man smiling at me.

I politely smiled back.

He looked back down to his computer and typed again.

I looked back at the table, guessing our moment was over. But then someone loudly cleared there throat. I lifted my head to find the man smiling again. He turned his computer around and in large font it had, 'Can I sit with you?' written on it. I smiled and nodded.

He started getting up as a different body sat down in front of me. I lost sight of the writer but didn't really mind as an intoxicating smell crawled into my nose... lavender...

Sorry for the wait, I'll update again soon. I just wanted to get something out there to keep y'all entertained. As always I love your feedback!! :)
