Chapter 1 - Prelude {The Family Trip}
~Summer 1986~
I stared out over the road absent-mindedly, waiting for my brother to get home...he was bringing a friend. Well a new friend that is. See I know all the friends that Jeordie’s ever had. I was usually very close with all of them, we had even given each other nicknames, like for instance Jeordie was Twiggy Ramirez, Kenneth was Ginger Fish, Stephen was Madonna Wayne Gacy or Pogo and Tim was Zim Zum. I was Lizzie Borden.
My thoughts were cut short when my brothers van pulled up in the driveway. As he and his friends got out he smiled at me “Hey Lily!” Pogo smiled and gave me a hug.
Me and Pogo were really close, I thought of him like a brother. A little after everyone was out of the car I noticed a tall skinny blonde kid with longish hair. “Who’s the new kid?” I asked.
Jeordie smirked a little. “This is Brian...but he prefers another name…” i raised a speculative eyebrow at my brother. “Marilyn…” I frowned, smiling a little. “Marilyn Manson.”
“Hey” smiled Brian … Marilyn “Oh, yeah, sorry, this is my sister, Lily” Jeordie stated after a long awkward silence. “He’s new here so can you go easy on him?” he mock pleaded then winked. “Just for a bit anyway.”
“Fine.” I mock grumbled, laughing as he shoved me playfully and headed down into the basement with the guys; I tagged along, intrigued by this ‘new friend’... he was different...and...cute? Was that the right word? As I looked him up and down, I smiled as a thought occurred to me ‘Perhaps this summer wouldn’t be so bad after all...’

We were sat in the basement, Brian and I sitting next to each other awkwardly while the other returned to their usual joking. I looked sideways at Brian...Marilyn...which name do i call him? I’m sticking with Brian just to bug him.
“So…” I began awkwardly, looking down at my hands when he turned to look at me.
“So…” he encouraged timidly. Oh, God...he was shy! Why is that attractive in a guy? Maybe it’s just me. “Was there more to that sentence?” he asked and I snapped out of my daydreaming.
“Oh, um...yeah…” Why am I flustered?! I’m usually so confident. “How are you liking Florida?”
“Meh.” he shrugged. “It’s...different…”
I frowned. I loved Florida. “What’s wrong with it?!” I demanded, my voice higher than I would’ve liked it to be. What the heck is with me today?!
“Nothings wrong with it, it’s just different” he retorted, smirking as he looked away. “I am liking the music scene though…” he shrugged again. “Gives me something to do… and gave me an idea the other day…”
“Oh, yes?” I asked and dodged a cushion Jeordie threw in our direction.
“I think I’m going to start a band…” Brian replied with a smile. “But we’re going to be so different no one’ll know what hit them!”
“Sounds like you might need to take Jeordie then…” I murmured quietly...but he heard me anyway.
“Oh, I intend to.” Brian nudged me gently. “Not too sure what to do with his sister yet, though.” he laughed light-heartedly.
I smiled wickedly. “Just try and make me do something I don’t want to… I dare you!”
He chuckled and ruffled my hair. “Dare me again in three years,” he gave me a sinful smile. “And I might just try.”
