SKREECH!
I land perfectly on the ice as I master a spin that I've been working on for a while. I feel a rush of accomplishment. Training for the Olympics is hard, I think to myself. I can't wait until tryouts. I really hope they pick me to compete for Team USA.
As I put my gym shoes on, I notice a little league hockey game about to start. I've always semi-liked hockey, but I've never been super into it. I do, however, love the action involved in it. Well, it's not like I have any plans so I may as well stay and cheer on the boys.
My rink's hockey team, the Ice Dogs, score twice in the 1st, once in the 2nd, and once in the 3rd, winning the game 4-2. The little boys are so adorable! I especially love when they score. They're just so delightful to watch!
I head home to my apartment on Madison Street in Chicago. A lot of my friends talk about how much hey hate the city, but I wouldn't change it for the world. I also love living down the street from the Madhouse on Madison. Even though I'm not that into hockey, I still love going to the UC to watch he Blackhawks play.
I walk in and say hi to my roommie Anna. Anna and I have been best friends since we were in preschool. She's super obsessed with hockey and is training to be on the women's Olympic team. I hop into my bed, falling asleep the second my head hits the pillow, and I dream about Competing for the USA...(Announcer) "She goes in for the spin... she jumps... she twists... and she lands perfectly. Megan's routine is perfect! Let's see what the judges think about it... 10! MEGAN WATSON WINS THE GOLD!!!"
BEEP!BEEP!BEEP!
I slam my alarm clock groggily and get dressed. I still need more practice so I can guarantee getting picked.
Walking down to the parking garage, I text my trainer Sara that I'm on my way. I drive out onto Madison and start the commute to the rink.
As I walk in, I see a huge glittering sign stating that Olympic tryouts are in 5 days. I'm smiling from ear to ear.
"MEGAN! TRYOUTS ARE IN LESS THAN A WEEK! YOU NEED TO PRACTICE!" Sara yells. My smile fades as I realize that the next five days are going to be way more intense.
"I'm coming! Sorry," I reply. I skate over to her, but a cute guy catches my eye, his blue-green eyes simply glowing at me. He has a strange familiarity to his face. No distractions, I think to myself. I need to focus on training, training and more training.
5 1/2 hours later, I leave the rink and go to the nearest Starbucks to get some coffee. I order my usual nonfat carmel mocha frap with extra creme. A little bell rings as a man walks into the shop. His eyes meet mine as I realized he's the guy from the rink. His brown hair has a perfect swish to it. Why does he look so familiar?
"Hi," he says smoothly. I feel the heat rushing up into my cheeks and he smiles. Our eyes are locked and for an instant, I forget everything that's going on.
(cashier)"Ma'am. Ma'am! Your total is $3.59." Oops. I guess I got lost in his eyes.
"I'll get it for you," says the mystery man.
"No, it's fine, I got it," I reply. Too late. He already handed his card to the cashier.
"Thank you," I say, curious as to how he will respond.
"Yeah, of course. My name's Ryan by the way. I saw you at the rink. I couldn't help but notice how amazing you skate."
"I hope I'm an amazing skater. I'm training for the Olympics. My name's Megan."
"That's funny...I'm training for the Olympics too. I'm a hockey player."
"Oh nice," I reply.
"Thanks," he says. I can't get over his perfectly sculpted face. He reminds me of a statue. He pauses for a moment to check his phone. "I'm sorry to cut this short, but I have to go to practice. Maybe I'll see you at tryouts. If not, then good luck!"
"Thanks, you too! And thanks for he coffee." He walks out the door and I walk home, unable to get Ryan out of my mind. Why does he seem so familiar? It's strange. Oh well.Author's note: Sorry this chapter is so short and frankly not very good. I'm just working on the main intros and stuff... I'll try to make the upcoming chapters longer and better. Hope you like it so far!
