"Okay mom I'll be fine. It's just boarding school it's not like I'll be gone forever; I'll still be around for the holidays." I said reassuringly to my frantic mother.
My mom was the only thing I had left and I the same for her. She raised me alone; she had no one to help her, not even family. I was amazed at how she got by, how I even made it to Bradley Boarding School. Sometimes it brought tears to my eyes just to think about what God has done for me and how I beat statistics for young black women. We unloaded the last of my belongings into my small, shared, dorm-like apartment. I was informed that I would be sharing it with another student, wasn't too thrilled about that, but you make the most of what little things you have right? My mother and I stood in the small room staring at each other, sad because of how everything will change from this point on. A tear slipped from my eye. My mother reached out her small hand and wiped it away gently, whispering softly,
"My sweet child, don't forget about me. Make something of your life, be better than I was, promise me that!" she said sternly. I nodded my head briskly and replied,
" I'll never forget you ma." I said strongly hoping to mean every word. There's a knock at the door abruptly ruining our farewells."Come in.", I said hoping to clear the air. A dark head poked head through, what the hell?
